How Much Do You Pay Your Childcare Assistant?

    Hi everyone!

I was wondering around how much do you pay your helper? If you do not mind sharing. I am trying to figure out if my employe is underpay, or average...or simply if I should get her a raise

We are in California and I pay her $13/hour with all Holidays paid (8 totals a year), 4 weeks vacation paid (and occasional days off/hours off paid when sick or her family). And we have 8 kids daily.

    What do you think?

    Thank you!

Holy cow, the benefits are more than enough to make up for a lag in hourly wage. 4 weeks vacation is extremely generous! I am in Kansas, and I pay my full time assistant $10.50 an hour, 50 cent raise every six months for the first year, then 50 cents a year. 1 week paid vaca, 8 paid holidays.

No assistant but my sub gets $10/ hour.

Unless my wife is subbing then payment involves takeout, flowers, and probably a massage.

But it's California. Min wage is $9.50. Gas back to Almost $4.00a gallon same with milk.

SF min wage is higher around $10.00 I don't know exactly. I pay between $11 and $15.00 an depending on experience education and there job description.

I pay 10.50 (our minimum wage goes up from 8.25 to $10 in July) no vacation pay and 1/2 pay on paid closed holidays.

4 weeks vacation sounds so generous! I think this is something to ask around locally since rates and hourly rate difer by area

I don't pay vacation pay. or on holidays. just the way I set up my contracts. I do pay a slightly higher pay for summer, as we do charge a higher rate during summer hours due to higher utility bills.

We are in Los Angeles. Where rent is ridiculously expensive!!!

During the day there is always 2 of us so we share the responsibility of potty/ diapers, class, , food and cleaning up. I make sure everything is good to go(bag/kids) and that the house is always very clean (so I do 3/4 of the cleaning) and prepare the class (and craft).

                  But after hours I take care of running the daycare and everything behind, emails, phone calls, paper works, shopping you all know;

It make me feel so good to read that you thought I was generous! She is struggling still with that pay and I was feeling guilty...

I can feel your pain as rent here is stupid expensive too. I pay over 3 grand for a 1200sf house.

But i will say this. dont ever do something because you feel bad or pity someone else. You will never be successful if you do. While it is thoughtful, unless you can still run your program successfully and you can obtain the amount of money you need for yourself/family, don't take pay cuts for the sake of helping someone else. you always have to help yourself first, then help others.

If you can pay out that much or more with no issues, than make your employee earn it. Trust me when i tel you this. They will not work hard for you if you hand it to them without cause...

Thank you so much for your advise! You are very right. Sometime I get all slow up when I see others struggling since I know that feeling!

So $13/ hour is pretty good then

Anyone else is in Los Angeles?
