I'm finishing up my daycare space In my basement. The basement is one huge room and will be soley dedicated to the kids. I have a nice couch that im going to put down there for the kids to rest on, read on, whatever. But, should I put a TV too? I have one already so jt won't be an expense. The kids WILL NOT be watching much tv at all.. Just for a half hour if they wake up from nap.. Or as an occasional treat on a rainy day. But will the parents see the TV and assume its a regular part of the day? I don't want them to think they're paying me to put their kids in front of a movie.. Would it scare you away as a parent?

I get lots of parents because of this so in my case, yes....it would scare away the type of clients I am looking for.
I know that doesn't apply to everyone but I answered from my perspective.- Flag

I have a wall mounted flat screen TV in my daycare room. It's up high so the kids can't touch it. We use it occasionally for rainy day movies, but it's used daily for streaming music from Pandora or playing other kids music from itunes or cds. Sometimes I will put on a slideshow of pictures that I have taken of the daycare kids. They love seeing their faces up on the screen! I also found a children's yoga channel on You Tube a while back. That's one of the kids favorite activities!
So yes, we use it. The parent's know it. A lot of them have commented that they think it's pretty neat that I use my TV for everything but cartoons!- Flag

I use mine as an educational tool.
example- this month we are learning about farms. We have watched a few videos of different farms on discovery kids and you tube. I have apple tv and we use it for lots of picture slide shows of the kids too.
during nap time we use it to stream music.
we all love it and I would say it gets used maybe 5 min a day of viewing time and the rest is for music purposes.- Flag

I am screen free also. I feel like there is no need for it. When I use to allow a little all they did was want to watch tv- and they would beg! I think it is easier to not have it at all then regulate the "little" and under 2 zero screen time is recommended and I have a mixed group.- Flag

The center I work at has no TV. Our director believes most kids get enough screen time at home. We have gotten kids from other daycares because of that reason. Several of our children have started here as drop in when their provider has been sick or off for some reason, and the parents have moved to our center so that their children get no screen time. We have school age who might bring something, but it is put up until they go home. All parents are aware that no electronics are allowed. So yes, I think it makes a difference to some parents.- Flag

My daycare is downstairs and there is no TV. I use my kindle or computer to stream music. I advertise as TV free, and parents love it. I do have a TV upstairs, and once a month when I do a Saturday night/date night party we watch a Disney movie. BUT the kids know, not even to ask pn a regular daycare day, because it isn't an option which I like. And then, when we watch our Saturday night show once a month, they think it is THE BEST because it is a treat.- Flag

meanwhile.....
The other 50% like the "no screen" at daycare because that means their kids will not get too much of it during the day and will be completely occupied with it at home.
Either way, I guess it works.- Flag

Oh BC I totally agree! We hear some kids talk about shows they have watched and I am like really your parents find that appropriate? But then I remind myself I am with them 10 hours a day 4 days a week, the rest of the time is not my place to judge.- Flag
