    Music

Do you play music during the day while the kids are playing and doing activities? If so, what type?

Yes, but not kiddie music, . Kid-appropriate, yes, but I just can't do kid-geared music. I alternate between several Pandora stations.

Mostly during quiet time or when they come in wanting to dance.

Pandora-usually Jack Johnson, Disney station, Beatles. It's not on all the time, but I really enjoy it when it's on.

I play either classical music or Jewel's lullaby CD during naptime, and I'll play maybe one or two CD's while the kids are playing. I think its important to have music time, but also time without it. I read somewhere that if music is on all the time as background noise that kids don't learn to appreciate it as much.

We love Jack Johnson! I also play a lot of instrumental guitar music in the background. Thank goodness for pandora.

We do some pop songs (age appropriate lyrics) in the am for a dance party, classical on most of the day.

Greg & Steve, Hap Palmer, Raffi, & Disney are the mainstays of my CD collection.

I also turn on the kids music channel on our TV for a change of pace.

Music is the one area I fall short in for the dck's.

I rarely play music for them (other than nap time) but I supply plenty of musical instruments and listening opportunities for them to do on their own.

We have dedicated music time too.... with an elementary music teacher (ex DCM) that comes in T/TH for 30 minutes.

As for music playing in the background (other than mine) my DS's pediatrician said it can sometimes be over stimulating or too much "static" for some kids with ADD or other sensory issues so background kid music is just not something I do.

NO idea if there is any truth to that other than what my son and a few of his friends (also with ADD) have shared.....too much unnecessary stimuli.

Sometimes if we're doing play-doh or a table project (and for dancing of course). Mostly Christian based but my 3.5yr old will request Alan Jackson or Kenny chesney often .

I plan on playing music for sure. I've already got about seven playlists of instrumental music ready to go. I can't do classical or i'll fall asleep, and the super cheesy nursery rhyme stuff would drive me to homicide. So mostly it's current music either instrumental, or piano covers.

When I worked at a center they would play kid music over an intercom throughout the entire school. I HATED it. When music is playing in the background and people are talking I find it hard to concentrate. Like my attention is bouncing back and forth between the lyrics of the music and the words people are saying. It's not a good feeling. This is why I stick to mostly instrumental guitar music during the day. If the kids are doing an activity where they are generally quiet then I will play something like Jack Johnson.
