    Is This Okay?

Sorry guys, still trying to learn to stand my ground and follow my own policies, instead of letting parents set them . So new DCG has come all week in footie sleepers and no shoes in her bag. I had told mom she didn't have to wear shoes, but needed to have them. Today is the first time this week it has felt like April so we can go outside. So I texted dad "please remember to bring DCG's shoes and dress her appropriate for outside play, as we do play outside every day that weather permits". So if he doesn't do this, is it okay to send him home for shoes etc.? Mom gave me the impression yesterday he just does whatever, she said "he never listens to me".

I would. If the child isn't ready to participate in the daycare activities, then she can't stay. It isn't fair to her or the other children to make them all stay inside.

        Ask yourself....

You have a 5 yr old daycare boy.

You told him to pick up the dinosaurs or he wont be allowed to play with them the next day.

He doesn't listen and goes about the day.

The next day, the dinosaurs are out.

        Do you let DCB play?

Yes? Then you need to work on following through on those things you need/want or you need to work on not threatening consequences you don't follow through on.

No? Right answer! Because you stated the issue and consequence clearly and now have an obligation to follow through.

The above example is the EXACT scenario you are going through with this family. You CLEARLY stated the issue and the consequence and now have an obligation to follow through.

So after texting dad she still came in a footed sleeper with no shoes. I told him this is the last time she has to come ready for care. But since I have issues with my two SA kids having stuff in their cubbies and one never wearing clothing that fits. And their mom has been paying me on Tuesday (3 days late every week), and I haven't found a way to bring it up, I am giving this to everyone today.

          Dear Parents,

This letter is due to some issues we have at daycare that must be fixed. Most of them are minor issues, but still important. I am asking you to help me stay in compliance with the parent handbook, and with state regulations/recommendations.

The first issue is with children having proper supplies for their cubbies, and being dressed properly each day for daycare. Many children do not have the proper FULL change of clothing in their cubby. This means if they get wet or dirty, I will have to call for immediate pick up. I don’t want to have to do that. In order to remedy this situation, I am requiring ALL parents to physically check their child(ren’s) cubby by Friday, 4/24/2015. I am attaching a cubby list, in order to help you make sure your child has what they need in their cubby. This list will change seasonally, so please be advised you will have to do this again!

We have also had an issue over the past weeks with children not being dressed appropriately for daycare. We are busy having fun here, however if one child isn’t able to do an activity that means no children can. Your children should come to care with comfortable clothing and tennis shoes as written in your parent handbook. If your child is going to be wearing other clothing or shoes to school, they should have what they need for daycare in their cubby. Starting on Monday 4/27/2015 children will either be sent home upon arrival until they have proper shoes and clothing, or you will be called for IMMEDIATE pick up. Much as you have to dress ready for work, we need to dress ready for learning and play.

Last, but not least payments need to be discussed. I have made some exceptions allowing payments to be made on alternate days. My legal counsel has advised I no longer allow this. Starting on Monday, 4/27/2015, all payments will have to be made by the Friday PRIOR to the next weeks care. If they are not, they $10 per day late fee will apply and your child will not be accepted into care until all fees, including late fees are paid. This DOES NOT apply to any payment arrangements on deposits.

          Thank you for your understanding

OP I sure would like an update tomorrow whether or not dd brought shoes for the little one or not. I had my kids in daycare 10+ years ago and I couldn't imagine doing the things some of these do. When I put my daughter in daycare for the first time she was 2. I dropped her off at 4:45am so I kept her in her pajamas (because I figured she would go back to sleep after I dropped her off) and packed her outfit and a second set of clothes plus shoes in her diaper bag. My DP did not have a handbook so I didn't know that she would keep her in her pajamas all day. After the second day of me picking my daughter up from daycare in her pajamas common sense told me if I wanted my daughter in clothes I would have to get her dress. Problem solved

Well at that hour, I would allow PJ's and change them, but no way in hades am I up at that hour! Mom got the letter tonight but dad got verbally told today. Tomorrow he will be going home to get shoes and such, late to work or not. I have a hard time being tough, but not when I have warned, warned warned. Of course mom asked again today "did he bring her blanket?". Fourth day here I said nope! She said "well I am going to quit saying it and see if he remembers", he won't .
