This Should Be Fun (Dripping With Sarcasm)

So ds 3 y.o. is really giving me a run for my money. Lots of fits, demanding his own way, and saying he's bored, tired of playing, wants to be held, needs some more loving...etc. I've tried lots of strategies and I'm feeling a bit defeated. Last week he refused to eat his whole wheat pancake at breakfast so he dumped the whole plate in the trash. I told him he would be a very hungry little boy at lunch time and sent him to his room. He calmed down, apologized, and said he would eat what I made him so I relented and gave him a second chance. Bad idea. Today he again got mad b/c he didn't want the whole wheat bagel I gave him. He wanted to pick his own from the bag. I said no it was already on his plate that he could eat it or wait until lunch. He shoved the plate again and I said we're done. Today I am not relenting. However, I now have a grouchy, whiny little boy who won't quit crying or throwing fits and its still an hour and a half until lunch. I know part of the problem is that he's so hungry, but I also know if I give in again this cycle will just continue. So, so frustrating. And I'm supposed to have an interview with a potential family this afternoon. I'm so nervous about how he will act while they're here. And to think people used to compliment me on his behavior. What happened?

. He's smart. But mommy is smarter. You're doing the right thing.

Sounds so much like my DD at that age. They can be so frustrating sometimes. Any chance you can get him to sit and do a special activity during your interview? Hang in there, my DD was horrid from about 18 months until 5 or so. Oh the tantrums that could go for hours. She is a sophomore in HS now, starting college classes next fall! So just tell yourself it does get better!

He was the perfect gentleman at the interview. Sat & colored nicely the whole time, asked politely about their little girl, & answered their questions when asked & without interrupting the adult's conversation. I was so impressed. That's my little boy I know. Not sure who he was this morning, but I'm hoping we don't have any repeats. Haha And...they enrolled! I'm so excited. Their family seems like a really good fit for my program. happyface

Thrifty, you're so right. I know the years will fly by, but those fits about do me in some days.

When my DD was 3 or 4 in her worst years, DH and I were doing foster care. The Health Dept. lady and another lady were at our house over some foster care business. My DD woke up came downstairs, made her bowl of cereal, ate it and then took her bowl to the sink grabbed the dishcloth and wiped up her spot at the kitchen table (where we were sitting). They were so impressed they told her what a great job she did, and I sat there with my jaw laying on the table . Sometimes just when you need it the seem to be able to do it .
