    A little mad

I am only open three days this week because of it being my kids spring break. I have only two dck here today. I get a message from mom of the one that I have. "He had a fever last night. I think I still have medication in the front zipper of his bag, if he runs another fever. I don't know what is going on because he hasn't acted sick." Well he hasn't acted sick but he wasn't himself either. I assumed it was because of his birthday party yesterday and he just got worn out. Sure enough after mom sent me a message I checked and it was 102.4. I text her and was like you need to come get him now. I will not administer any type of medication to any child that isn't my own. He should have never been brought here today. I'm a little mad about it. My daughter had strep a week ago today and I closed. I didn't allow children back till her third dose of antibiotics. Ugh! She is on her way to take him to the doctor and was like can I bring him back.

I would have been mad too! And to ask if he can come back after the doctor?! I would have just stared at her like "are you serious?!" Although I did have a DCD try to pull that one saying the Dr said he could come back to daycare Needless to say he was told to stay home . I would tell this DCM that since he has a fever now, he may not return to care until 24 hours after it breaks so, have a good day off tomorrow DCB!

I would be mad too. Same policy here: they need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning.

That would have earned her exclusion until Wednesday now AND a mark on her record. When she reaches 3, she is automatically termed.

@Cozy.... Sorry you are having to deal with that on a Monday morning! ((hugs))

Well she text me.... He has strep. So I told her he couldn't return till Friday. I'm off Wednesday/Thursday this week. My daughter had it last week. I be damn if I'm going to subject her, me and my family to that mess again. Plus my nephew is having surgery Wednesday to have his adnoids removed. He doesn't need to get this mess right before surgery. She knew he had a fever and tried to play it off like no big deal.

Wow. I'd be upset she brought me a sick kid, but I'd also be furious that she put medication in his bag and just left it at my door.

good point. Make sure you address the medication with her and how it's not ok to leave it in a bag that one of the kids could have gotten into.

This is term-worthy, imho. IF you let this slide, NEVER let it happen again without giving her walking papers and let her know that.

I'd be mad too. You have the right to be upset. Sending a child to daycare sick is rude and unacceptable!

It constantly amazes me how many DCPs think that the fact that medicine lowers the fever somehow makes the child not sick.
Ibuprofen and Tylenol just treat the symptom, not whatever is causing the illness! I would be mad and demand immediate pick up.

Then, it would depend on the track record of the family. If they are a golden family and this is the first problem, then I would address it with a "discussion" and a warning that it is never to happen again. If it is a problem family, then they would be termed.

I'd be mad, too. 102.4 fever is NOT "a little off!" That signifies a major battle with an infection going on inside DCB's little body.

I'd bet DCM was hoping the medicine would keep the fever down to a lower grade, and you should just tolerate it and care for him since you had the audacity to already be closed 2 days this week.

99.3 = a slight fever, could be pretty much anything
                        102.4 = sick kid

I would be sure to let her know that a repeat of this incident will be considered grounds for termination.

Just a little mad? I would be more than a little mad LOL. Especially with her leaving meds laying around. I would let her know that in no way is that to happen again.

Oh I let her know how upset I really was. I let her know that never is it ok to leave medication in the diaper bag without telling me. I also wouldn't give him any type of medication ever. He will need to get medication before arriving as far as his antibiotics. Especially since he gets here at 9-915 she has enough time to do it. She understood that next time it happens they will not be coming back. Turns out the kid has strep throat. Then she tried to blame my daughter for it. My dd had strep throat over a week ago. I made sure all surfaces were cleaned vigorously multiple times. Plus she had 3-doses of antibiotics prior to being around anyone. I calmly explained that symptoms usually appear 1-4 days after exposure. He couldn't possibly have been exposed by her since she is apparently on antibiotics for something plus she works at the mall. It couldn't have been his brother who is in public school. It couldn't be his dad that works in a shipyard. It couldn't be from anyone who was at his birthday party Saturday. It must have come from my house and my daughter. Grrrrrrrrrr
