I used to attend when invited, probably 15 years or so ago. Dance recitals, birthday parties, that sort of thing. I usually don't anymore. Like someone said, if you go to one then you're invited to everything, and I'm just not a social person to begin with. A lot of those things leave me feeling very awkward.

I'd go as I get quite close to lots of my families. I would draw the line there. Dance recitals, etc. no way!

I'd go only if it worked in my schedule. I would not go out of my way to attend. If I was extra busy, had to squeeze it in, etc. I'd say I was busy.

We also have a small celebration here. Crown, pick from birthday box ($ store items), &birthday bear at their spot at the table.

I was reading this yesterday and was thinking that I was so lucky that I don't get invited to dck's parties. I was a long time ago and I went and it was so awkward because I knew noone but the parents. I'm just not great at making conversation with people I don't know at all. Then yesterday happened. One of my dcb's brother is turning one soon and he was talking about it and said that momma had an invitation for me. Crap! I am hoping it's on a night that I already have plans . Not that I don't love this family because I do but it's hard for me socially.

.....and as the child care provider, guess who always seems to get stuck "watching" or entertaining all the kids at the party while the adults that do know each other socialize?

The kids always run to me saying my name! I love it! But I do spend my time with the adults. I will not work on my day off!
