Yesterday I conducted a last minute (emergency type) interview for a potential family that needed care due to previous provider going back to work. I informed the family prior to coming out that I charge a $55 application fee that is non-refundable. It also states it in my handbook as well as my contract. Today, the dad of the family calls me and says that the found out they are able to get a discount through their job so they will use that service. I stated ok, then he ask about the fee, I told him that it is non-refundable and its stated in my contract. He says ok. About 15 mins later he calls back and ask about it again and I tell him, this fee is non-refundable and it applies to me preparing for getting prepared for their child. He says ok again. Another 15 mins later he calls me again and says, Well the application is untouched and our situation is messed up, we have to pay another provider and another application fee so we need our money. I say sir I know you've never dealt with a daycare before but the fee is non-refundable. I also told a family that just so happen to knock on my door today that I already signed up a infant so now I can't take another infant. My question is, should I refund it or stick firm to my policy and not give it back? Now I feel like I'm being harassed.
