    This kiddo

Man I don't know what his thing is with the food. Recently I had a thread about him where he told me mom didn't feed him breakfast after she had texted me that the kids were being slow eating so they were running late on a non school day.

Today she brought them in and it was almost time for the bus. They are not contracted with me for breakfast. About two minutes before I was to send them out to the bus he says "can we have some breakfast?". I told him no his mom feeds him. His sister says "no we were running late". So I asked "don't you get free lunch at school?", thinking I would have them get breakfast they just didn't have time. But then he says "yeah and free breakfast also" of course I told him to get on the bus and go eat it . I don't want any child hungry but I can't figure this kid out!

Is it possible that there isn't enough food in the house? It's more common than people think in this country- and it really does affect those above poverty level (too 'rich' to get help, too poor to afford enough).

Does he EAT the school breakfast and lunches? My own kids will NOT eat them. It's very processed, the foods are paired oddly, lots of canned, etc.

Another thought- the kids have very little time to actually eat once they go through the line at school. I went with ds one day to eat lunch at school (I brought us lunch), and watched as a little kindergartener went last in line, was rushed to a table, sat with his hand raised (I opened his milk for him) and then had UNDER 10 minutes to eat. When he said he wasn't done, his tray was taken from him and he was told to line up.

Well I agree with you on all counts. But when mom signed him us she said he will not be eating breakfast here. I am not on the food program, and I gave her a slightly lower rate for before and after school considering that her kids would only have after school snack here, she offered to provide it but I am not keen on outside food. I much prefer they all have the same food in front of them. I guess I need to talk to mom again about the situation. Dad usually picks up and he is nice enough, but kind of flakey. I talk to him about things and it is very apparent that after I say it, he ignores it. Mom is always running late at drop off it seems. I guess I need to find a way to talk to mom. These two will try to get things past me, and probably mom as well.

The sister (they are 2nd and 3rd grade boy being oldest), she comes in every day after school saying she doesn't have homework. I found out she was fibbing to me, so now she tells me "I don't think so" and when I tell her "well I have a couple of worksheets you can do" she finds homework EVERY day. These two are not bad kids, but they sure do try things .
