climbing out of pack and play

I keep finding a little one at my elbow well into nap time. Here everyone has own room and pack and play.He is a stealth climber because I can't hear him do this...he's just right there all of a sudden. I took him firmly by his hand and led him back to bed today and in my (I mean business voice) told him no climbing, when nap is over I will come get you.I have let both parents know we need to come up with a plan for this...it may mean it's time to move on...no nap no stay. What would/have you all done when this happens? Thanks

How old is he? Can you move him to a cot?

If he is skilled enough to climb out of the pack and play, he is skilled enough to learn to lie on a nap mat or cot instead.

I teach my littles from day 1 to never stand in the pack and play. It takes a bit of work in the beginning but makes the transition from PNP to nap mat so much easier.

I've used sleep sacks if they're not ready for a mat. Next step, try a mat. I've had one that would NOT sleep on a mat, but he was leaving or he would have been termed.

I do not have the time, energy, or set up to sit by a child's bed.

I should say, too, that I have one LO who I moved to a cot when she started climbing out, and I never had a problem. She liked the "big girl" bed.

I agree with the cot. All mine are in cots from 2years old on. It takes some training, but they get it It might be a phase, he just discovered this new skill and is excited. It might just take a few days of returning him to his bed, or even sitting near the pac n play so you can catch him in the act, say no, lay him back down etc.

I had a 12 month old do this and she wasn't ready for a cot. I used a sleep sack when she napped and it worked like a charm! It prevents them from being able to climb.

Genius!!!! I have a 14mo DCB that is climbs everything he can get his leg over and I'm just waiting for him to try to climb out of his pnp. I don't do nap mats, so this is a great alternative!!
