    Tummy bug

I had a week vacation, returned to daycare February 16th. Both baby Moms mentioned I missed the right week because they're babies were sick. One had a miserable cold, the other a tummy bug. No fevers, but BOTH had diarrhea. I sent the one home because it was the 'sick' smelling diarrhea. The other one wasn't so soft, could be mucus from the cold, whatever. Well... by Wednesday I had the stomach flu, my son had the stomach flu and one of the other DCK's whole family went down. Grrrr... I took Wednesday and Friday off to recover, it was BAAADDDD.

    ?????
I have a DCB-3 that just had diarrhea. The 'sick' tummy bug poop. He's acting normal, no fever, made it to the potty. I asked him if he had poops like this yesterday and he said 'Yes, Mommy says I have diarrhea'. And she still sent him? WHY?

I had a week off, for which they needed to find alternate care. (I told them 6 months in advance.) Then I had to take 2 additional days off to fight this exact stomach flu. (My contract gives me two paid sick days a year, so they had to pay). He has to go home, right? I don't know why I'm asking. I know the rule. I guess I just feel bad because his parents are going to miss work and feel put out. I have four total kids here. Of the four kids, three have definitely had it, and the Mom of the one DCK that hasn't gotten it already said she got it (the one with the cold). Do I send him home?

If it is in your policy to send home, then yes I would send him home.

I had to send home DCG 2 weeks ago for the same thing. This child NEVER poops here. She had 2 loose BM's. No fever, eating normal, etc. Called parents for pick up and they said she has loose poops because she has been on antibiotics for 3 months straight (a whole 'nother story)...Anyway, DCG ended up being out all week because she had diarrhea the whole week.

I "get" that mom already had to find alternate care due to you being closed but does she not understand that this kind of back and forth wouldn't happen if everyone was simply honest and kept their kids home when they are sick?

I'd make a point of putting this on her and telling her THIS (her sending kid KNOWINGLY sick) is why you had to close and may possibly have to do so again.....

I am a HUGE stickler when it comes to my illness policy and I do get grief from parents sometimes but I don't care because it is in the best interest of the GROUP not just one or two families...kwim?

I'd be so mad about her sending him..

Call for a pick up and exclude tomorrow. I have let my emotions get the better of me one too many times and feeling"bad" or "guilty" when I had to send a child home. But if you don't, they take advantage of it and push more and more each time.
