    Provider SOS

Help!!!! School is out tomorrow, we have been out all week. I only have my two school agers, but I am running out of ideas. The boy can get really wild if I don't keep him busy he is in 3rd grade. His sister isn't so bad but he gets her reved up she is in 2nd. I need new ideas! We have panted, play doh, made bracelets, had school time, today was "beach day" so I allowed a little tv, we played beach balls (until it got nuts), and played find the sea shells in the rice bin. I need a few new ideas. At least the school didn't wait until the last minute this time.

If you have a lot of snow, how about bringing in some?

I use plastic bins (flat, low sides) and then put in some food color, give them spoons or little animals or both.

Kept a 3 year old terror busy for an entire hour that way one day last month. By the end, he had mostly water left.

    Oh, give them jobs, too.

2nd and 3rd grade? Pick a theme and get them to write and illustrate their own books. I did this with preschoolers and it was a hit. Just staple 10 pages like a book and then get them to read the book to everyone when they're done.

My sons 9 & 10 like to empty out the recycle bin - give them sticky tape, glue and scissors and let them create to their hearts content. My nine year old also likes to make comic books but my ten year old hates it. Board games are a good one, maybe they can make their own? Over the school holidays my boys spend the morning doing jobs they like such as cleaning the windows and washing the dishes (basically anything with water!) they will then make morning tea - cupcakes, muffins, etc. We then do school time - fun sheets, educational time on the computer, etc. Then they create, do painting, play board games, play 'school' with the little ones and help me get dinner ready.

Paper, glue, scissors, tape and an empty box to decorate. Today I had mine string cheerios on a long piece of string to put out for the birds.

I like the bird idea we have feeders and they love to watch them at the feeders. Board games are kind of a bust. If I am not sitting right there, two siblings that normally get along great get into a scream fest, because they both start cheating which cracks me up because they both do it you would think they wouldn't yell about it .

If my boy didn't get so rambunctious it wouldn't be so bad but if I don't keep him occupied he will end up running, jumping, throwing stuff, jumping on the furniture. He is a good kid, as long as I keep him busy. If not and he starts doing it, lil sis follows suit. Outside time would solve our issues, if it were not in the single digits.

Sounds like they need to entertain themselves a little. I used to work in an after school program, and agree with the advice to give them recyclables and tape- let them build away. Since you only have two, let them bring in books, toys, whatever from home. Oh, and lots of tv.
Fridays are a great excuse for movie day- my SAers like those storage war shows and science shows that are usually for adults, but are also good for elementary aged kids. You've done so much already this week, take it easy on yourself

I let them have an hour or so of TV yesterday. I really try to have a no tv rule. But an hour was all that entertained them anyway.

Definitely let them make their own lunch today. Let them scavenger through your pantry and make up a recipe (book with steps by step instructions and illustrations), have them set table and cook it with your help. Tape them cooking as if they are making a cooking show.

Make an obstacle course. Again, tape and tell them they are taping a wipe out show.

Do you have any fitness videos? If not, you can look some up on YouTube.
                  Good luck!

I might let them do lunch they had a great time making apple crisp for snack earlier this week. We did do the kids yoga on youtube the other day and the seemed to enjoy it we may rerun that. I may even take them to the mcdonalds play place this afternoon since I just have the two to get them out of the house.

OH and I have dug out a bunch of art supplies. Paper lunch bags, glue, stamps, foam shapes, glue sticks, crayons, markers red duct tape, scraps of paper, magazines, poster board, some of the recycle as suggested, craft sticks hopefully that will keep them contained for awhile today.

Play doh? Even my older kids will play for a while. If you have any small objects they can make sculptures, or potato head pieces to make faces

I'm glad you posted this quest for help! I'll have 3 extra dcks next week and 2 days of the following week. I need to keep them busy or else all I hear is "I'm bored" or the dcb will find ways to get into trouble.
