    Homemade Finger Paint?

Has anybody had any experience with homemade finger paint?

I was going to possibly try this recipe:

    2 cups flour

    2 teaspoons salt

    2 1/2 cups cold water

    2 cups boiling water

    Food Coloring

Mix the 2 cups of flour with the 2 teaspoons of salt. Ad the 2 1/2 cups of cold water; stir until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the 2 cups of boiling water. Boil until the mixture becomes smooth and thick. Add food coloring, a little at a time, until you get the desired color. Once cooled you're ready to paint.

I just use flour, water and food colouring. It looks great, the kids love the texture and it comes out really vibrant. My kiddo's are actually painting with some now - took me two minutes to make and hours of (messy) fun!

Does this stain clothing? I have two right now that have had a ton of school days, but I don't have any painting smocks yet.

I have not had it stain clothing - I am assuming the food colouring you guys use over there is the same that I use? It does stain the hands until the nights bath but other than that I have had no issues and we play with it at least once a week. I have a 16 month old that literally paints himself from head to toe (so therefore getting hair, body, clothes and shoes) I strip him before coming inside bag the clothes and send home, mum washes them and she says it come straight off.

In my experience it will kelp for about four to five days. Give it a good stir before using again and you should have no issues. The painted product I tell parents to only keep for a week as it is basically a food product and I am worried about mold. I don't know if it would go moldy but I don't want to take the chance. If I want to keep a copy of the painting I either take a photo or scan it into my computer. HTH
