This Boy Just Smells Bad. :(

He is 2.5 and here 4 days per week. He is bathed and is not dirty so I am not sure what the smell is. Maybe something they eat at home? Within a short time of him getting here in the morning the whole daycare room will smell like him.

He is not potty trained so when I change him I powder his bum and spray some body spray on him, but then it is just the bad smell mixed with burst of perfume.

I don't know what to do! Ugh!

Is it his clothes? I have a 4yo and apparently Mom can't do laundry. They wash it in the AM and leave it in the washing machine until Mom comes home and switches it. The mold/mildew smell is AWFUL. I keep two changes here and have him change upon arrival and wash what he brings in. DAILY. I've mentioned it to his Dad, and he agrees and apologized. He explained the laundry situation and said he does his own. Mom will NOT change it and says it's the only way she can get it done. On occasion, it isn't like that and Dad has washed his clothes.

Another dcb smells like patchouli. Makes me GAG if he gets too close. When he hugs me, I hold my breath. It's not his clothes, it's HIM. I've even wiped his hair (buzzed) with a soapy washcloth, he smells after water play still, etc.

what is his culture/ ethnic background?

I didn't realize that when my own family comes to visit me from our home country that they have an unusual smell. I don't mind it, but my own kids at fist made some comments about not liking the smell of the room.

Could it be something like that or special diet?

He is just American, not ethnic. It isn't his clothes either, they actually smell good. It smells bad and then when he poops it smells the same only worse. He also has very strong smelling pee, hence the powder. I am not aware of any special diet, I have no idea what it is. It is just awful though.

He has also starting spitting out a blob of spit onto his lips and then rubs his hands in it.

It makes getting close to him pretty difficult.

My guess is that it's the spit he's rubbing around. Maybe have him wash his hands every time he does this, and see if it makes a difference.

Could he be constipated or have another sort of digestive issue? We have a dcb who is now a preschooler who was frequently constipated and always had a smell.
