    Climbing

14m dcb tries to climb EVERYTHING, and gets bored crazy easy. It doesn't matter what we are doing, he is over it in less than 5min. I need some ideas for him to get his energy out, without breaking himself in the process. My own kids were extremely calm and never behaved like that. I think I just majorly lucked out with that one!

Can you give him things to climb? A pile of pillows, small indoor climber? I allow the children to climb and stand on the chairs - both child and adult sized - and sit or lay on the child sized table. They can't stand on it or go on my dining room table, but the climbing they are allowed seems to help.

How do you do that without them falling off? I can't even let my little ones have the chairs in our playroom to the little table because they're constantly falling off of them and they're All 18 months and older!

I brought in a small climber from outside for the winter. We don't really have room for it and it's not really big enough, but at least it's something to redirect to.

I'm of the "we don't climb on chairs or tables" school, so they are redirected FROM climbing on those things. It's definately good to give them something they CAN climb on, though.

They do fall off - 18" to the carpeted floor in a clear area. Usually it only takes 1-2 falls before they figure out how to balance.

Mine climb on couch cushions all day long. I am getting ready to replace my furniture in my lower level (daycare level), and I am going to save the cushions and pillows for the daycare room.

Yes we don't stand/climb on furniture. They fall off of the chairs when seated and they're all 2-4.

I brought in a small slide with a lookout tower and a few stairs for winter. It helps...a little. One guy goes up/down it about 100x an hour.

My ds is the worst! He climbs everything and everywhere before you can even turn around. My dh yells, "No" firmly, and he cries and gets down. I just remove all the temptation when he's on a particularly bad climbing streak :: I take out the kitchen chairs so he can't move them over to the counter. I also have a slide for the kids to climb, and I try to give him large balls and trucks to throw- he seems to just like movement!
