    would you pay this

Thinking of adding a fee for bringing kids to daycare very late. Some of you say no drop offs after a certain time.I have been paid for the month but there is Gma that likes for the kids to come to her first. She feeds them a second breakfast and usually a snack then shows up at 11....and when asked why she didn't keep the two preschoolers also(she kept the schoolagers) she says she didn't want them....well they did not really eat lunch (11:30) and were the fist asleep(no naps over the weekend)..........My beef is they just do not transition in as well when they are so late....crying within the first 5 min. because another kid looked sideways at them, etc. I get Gma wants to spend time with them but it upsets the apple cart here..............sorry for ranting snow day, school delays and not one family has called me to let me know what is going on....last words by two families yesterday was no mater the weather we have 8 am meetings and the kids WILL be coming extra early. I could have stayed warm and snug in bed all this time................like they are. Thanks all...I keep loosing my pw and can't log in.

I don't have a fee but a policy that after a set time after their scheduled drop off, I mark them as absent and won't accept them for the day. So I guess their fee is having to pay for an entire day they didn't use. I tell them they must contact me if they are going to be more than 15 minutes late and I will determine if I can still accept them.

I implemented this policy after I had the same problem as you and I haven't had a problem since. Of course I no longer have that problem family and I made sure to emphasize being on time for drop off and pick up to all my new families.

I would make sure you bring it up to your problem family and tell them when your policy takes effect and just stick to it.

As for the early drop offs...it is your business and it sounds like they need a reminder of that.

The thing is that you can't guarantee they will give you the money for the late fee, but you can guarantee that you won't open your door after a certain time to let them in.

I lock my door at 9:05. You are considered absent after that. I would suggest to parents that grandma schedule a full day with the children, (on a FRIDAY! ) as you will no longer accept them into care after 9am, effective immediately. All children need to be on the same schedule, and they're having a difficult time with the transition.

Instead of charging a fee (some parents will happily pay and then your issues still remains unsolved) I would simply address the issue of transitioning with the parent.

Let them know how difficult it is having children arrive out of sequence to the rest of your day and that as a group care provider you HAVE an obligation to do what's best for the group and if the late drop off is disrupting the flow of your day, say so.

Don't bring Gma in to it at all. Just tell the parents what is happening from YOUR viewpoint.

I have a hard time "requiring" families to limit the time they spend with family members so if you present your issues with the transition difficulties and how the kids have a hard time it doesn't come across as if you are pointing your finger at Gma. kwim?
