Ok rookie question: what in the world is a troll? I thought I knew, but now I'm thinkin I don't really know. I even called myself one at one time when I first signed on here thinking it meant someone who reads a lot of posts but doesn't actually write anything. You can snicker at my expense.

A troll is someone who lurks around and says something just to start arguments and get everyone wound up. -
A troublemaker. The number one best thing to do if you think someone might be a troll is not to respond AT ALL. Not even to out them as a troll. I was on a forum once where a post by a troll got absolutely no responses and the troll soon went away. It is good to report them to Michael or moderators privately.
