How Much Do I Charge For This?

I have a situation here and I don't quite know what to do.

I have two kids that come for after school care and I charge $5 per day for after school care. DCG has a sibling that is here full time. DCG comes 4 days a week and stays for less than and hour so I make $20 a week. Fair enough for me.

DCB used to come 2 to 3 times a week for an hour each day. So it was between $10-15 per week. He also comes when school is out early that day but is obviously charged more than $5 . I am fine with all of that. However things have changed a bit and DCM has been using me more as drop in care vs. regularly scheduled care. I don't like this because $5 once a week or less is not worth it. I'm fine keeping him as a drop in but I need to be compensated more than $5.

How much do you recommend I charge for a service like this?

This is complicated all by the fact that DCB is a family friend. DCM and I used to be pretty close friends and I have watched her son with no problems what so ever for many years. I always made sure to set clear expectations. She has just taken me to the edge of patience with her over more than just this. I do not want to tell her that she can't use my services anymore but I am not opposed to a strongly worded letter or phone call telling her that if she wants to use my services that its going to cost $XX amount and here are the guidelines you need to follow.

Dear DCM, I have noticed recently you have started using my services as drop in care instead of contracted hours. Because of this I am going to have to change your status to drop in only. The rate for drop in care is $ per day, and my policy is # of days notice before care is given. Also, this is only available if I have room for dcb on that date. If you have any questions, please contact me.

I had to have this chat with a good friend. I was watching her 2 children, 3 days a week for 2 years. I had one month they didn't come for over half their contracted days with no pay. I gave her a letter offering her to move to a drop in status or to pay for all days whether they were there or not. I was frank. I said I just can't afford not to get paid, I wish I could! She was really understanding. She said she was surprised I hadn't insisted on this sooner
