Tom Copeland-Babysitter Expenses While Attending Training

Does anyone know if we have to get a W10 from a babysitter we paid to babysit our children while we attended training?
It says this in the record keeping guide: if you hire a caregiver for you child while you are attending a child care provider training workshop, you can also claim this expense toward your child care credit, because the training is related to your business. page 151

    Thank you!

It's my understanding that it's the parents responsibility to GIVE the provider the w10 form. The provider is not required to GIVE you one, but she is required to fill it out if you give her one. In order words, you have to give HER one and have her fill it out, otherwise she isn't required to give you one.

Yes Tammy, that is true. I think I'm not asking my question right. If I went to a training for daycare and paid a babysitter to watch my child during that time, not a daycare provider just a regular run of the mill babysitter do I still have to have a w10 to use the money paid as a business expense or is it flat out a child care expense so it falls under the child care tax credit.

You can count towards your personal child care tax credit the amount you paid a babysitter to watch your child while attending training for your business. You need the babysitter's Social Security number (or EIN) to claim the tax credit. It's not a business expense.
