    RSV and exclusion from daycare

DCB 8 months..the one I have mentioned in other threads...Has RSV. DCM took him to the doctor this afternoon. I guess dr. told her since he hasn't been running a temp he could come back tomorrow. DCM asked dr. if he was sure and said (according to her) Monday would be fine if she wanted one more day he could be home. DCM must not have liked that so she is keeping him home till next Thursday.

I'm fine with this. I want him to get better. He has had the same cough on and off for 3 months, plus numerous ear infections. I know come tomorrow when its time to pay for care it will be an issue.

Curios though what is the normal exclusion time for RSV if there is a "norm"

According to this he would be fine coming to daycare. She did mention that he didn't give another antibiotic as he is already on one for ear infections and to finish that. But, this says it isn't treatable with antibiotic.

Antibiotics aren't effective for virus' which is why he didn't prescribe another antibiotic. RSV is caused by a virus, similar to how a cold or the flu is caused by a virus and there's no way to "cure" the virus, it's just about symptom relief until it passes through the system.

He does need to finish the one he has though for his ear infection because antibiotics will help some ear infections, and it's very important to completely finish a round of antibiotics once you start them, even if you feel better. Otherwise your body builds up an immunity to them, and then they don't work anymore. You end up resistant to them and no antibiotics will work.
