    I didn't dress the child!

I absolutely hate taking my daycare kids on outings because no matter what, SOMEONE has something to say.

It's between 27 and 35 degrees today. It's winter in Maryland. It's FREEZING! But my little boy's mother decided to put a sweatshirt type jacket on him today. While we were out, some lady starts telling me he needs a coat. I told 'Yes he does, but he's a daycare child and that's what his mom sent him in. So that's all I can put on him." She continued to give me dirty looks, say a couple of times in a snippy manner that he needs a coat, and asked him (a 17 month old) where his coat is a few times. I was sitting there like, "Don't get snippy with me because of the way their parents dress them!"

One time, when I had to take a baby to the college, the baby was crying (He was one of those hold me 24/7 babies). I couldn't hold him while I was there, so I put him in a stroller. The next thing I knew, the campus police were in my face demanding to check the baby to make sure he was alright! I kept telling them that he just wants to be held but I can't hold him and do what I needed to do. The cop picked him up and by the time she got him to her hip, he stopped crying. As she went to put him down, he started crying again. I told her ' See! He just wants to be held. Nothing's wrong with him." I asked her if she wanted to carry him and follow me around while I finished what I needed to do. She declined and let me go on my way!

27-35F degrees.... we're in t-shirts right now. All my kids had only a hooded sweatshirt or a light weight fleece jacket on for our morning hike.

In response to the person who said he needs a coat, I would have replied with a blank stare and just went on my way.

Some folks just aren't worth responding to.

Was he dressed warm enough? Was he crying because he was cold?

If he didn't appear cold, I would have kindly said "Believe me, if he were cold, we'd hear about it" and move on. If he was crying and cold, then you should have layered extra clothes on him. I have extra hats and socks (for their hands) here, and a couple coats from the thrift store. If I didn't have those, I'd put my own socks on their hands and my teens sweatshirt over theirs.

The child in the sweatshirt wasn't crying or fussing at all. The lady just assumed he would be cold and in her opinion, he needed a winter coat on rather than a sweat shirt/hoodie type of jacket.

I think a hooded sweatshirt in that weather isn't too bad if your weather has been colder lately. It is 34 here right now and I didn't wear a coat out shopping. It has been cold, cold, cold for the last 3 weeks so today feels like a heat wave.

I don't like it when random old ladies come up and tell me how to do things. Once an older lady came up to me to tell me that my baby had teeth too early  What do you want me to do about that? Weird!

:::: Maybe you should have looked at the child and said, "Child! Your teeth are coming in too early! You better stop letting your teeth come in now. Do you hear me!?! Do you understand me child! You stop that now!" ::

Really, yeah, what does she want you to do about when his teeth come in? Some people just flip me out!

Ha ha, yes. It's about 25 here and feels balmy to me compared to what it's been.

Before I had kids, I watched my infant niece while my sister worked. I had her in the grocery store one day--it was a warm spring day--at least 70 degrees. An old lady came up and scolded me for not having a hat on her. I think the older generation typically overdressed their babies. Poor overheated little things!

I lovethis sock mittens. And sleeve mittens (you just pull coat sleeves over hands - happens on chilly days in the fall usually).

And I got scolded when my child was little all the time :: because I was a teen mom. Except I was near 30 I can't help it; I look young ::
