UPDATE: My 6 mos old never fell back asleep. Cried for an hour ( I went in every 10-15 min or so to give his paci back). This afternoon is going to be tough! Hopefully he will be so exhausted, he will just pass out, but if not, then I will tough it out and try again tomorrow.

bummer!! My guy always goes back to sleep since I dont think he wakes up all the way most of the time. He did wake up for about 30 min but went back to sleep.

Is he sick/has he been sick recently? I've noticed my 18mo old doing the same thing the last couple of days, but he's sick, so I think he's waking up because he can't breathe. He doesn't wake up fully, but whimpers and cries a little, eyes still closed....

Unregistered--What time does your 6 mo old wake up in the morning? If its early, is he/she OVER tired? Also, is he/she getting solids yet or strictly formula? Is he waking up hungry or just wakes up?

a few weeks ago he had minor surgery on his penis. It started happening shortly after that. He was really "off" in general for a about a week. Now he seems normal, minus this new sleep issue.

He arrives at my house at 5:15am, so I think he is woken up around 4 or 4:30 and when he gets here, he goes right back to sleep in his crib until about 7 or 7:30. He usually sleeps great in the morning for that 2 hours or so, but naptime is horrid! He went down for his afternoon nap and after a few minutes of fussing, fell alseep for about 15-20 minutes and has now been in there crying for the last 45 minutes (I have gone in 3 times to give his paci back and restart the music/lights show. There is a fan and it is nice and dark (same conditions as the morning sleep), so I am working on letting him cry it out, but not really sure how long to let him cry? If he slept the whole nape, he should be waking up in about 20 minutes or so, but with only about 40 minutes of total sleep since 7:30 this morning, I know he is going to be exhasuted. Any help would be soooo appreciated!

**he is on breastmilk and has not had much solid food (mom said she has been doing avacodo for the last two weeks or so, but I have only tried it once or twice, because he doesn't seem interested). He is drinking about 3 ounces every three hours. He goes down for nap about 45-1 hr after bottle, so hunger doesn't seem to be the issue.

Personally, after a few days of it, I would do everything in my power to keep the child awake longer before putting him/her down for a nap. I found that the more tired they were, typically, the better they slept. However, I would still have some babies that no matter how much I kept them awake and how tired they were, just simply wouldn't stay asleep for more than 20 minutes.

I've actually had parents who literally told me that the baby slept for a 20 minute nap. It's just the oddest thing to me. But it does seem to be the way a good bit of babies are nowadays.

Now, thinking about another thread where we were discussing how parents nowadays don't want to be parents and they want us to raise their children. Now that I think about it, many of the babies that I've had that won't nap well, their parents said that the baby would sleep a good 12 hours straight through the night. So, maybe the parents are not getting up with the babies in the middle of the night to feed them at 2 am like my generation did, so the babies are now sleeping all night long, therefore are truly not as tired during the day.
Isn't this the truth? Just wait until this kid wakes up and tosses crap from his diaper all around the room; it will happen sooner rather than later... (It's natural)

I might use a radio but put it on very low volume static. Also be careful that you dont keep the baby up to long after displaying signs of being tired. I have found that over tired babies have a terrible time sleeping.
