    Pregnancy

I tried searching but could find anything. How soon would you tell dcfs that your pregnant? I know a lot of you take 2-6 weeks off but I don't think I'm planning to open back up for a least a year if at all. How much notice should I give?

Since you are essentially closing your day care, I would wait until closer to the end of the second trimester or even more. A month is plenty of notice, IMO.

I told my families pretty quickly when I was pregnant simply because I had been in business for so long before having children (9 years) that I was afraid they would think I would be quitting child care....that question of what I would do when I had children always come up during interviews???....but if I was going to close, the only thing about not being up front is if they hear from somewhere else you are quitting after having the baby???? If their is a possibility you may want to open back up, you would not want to have bad relations with parents for not being honest....might be good to tell them after you get through first trimester?

I second this. Otherwise you're going to have families that are going to be looking for a new daycare now(because you're closing so why wouldn't they?) and if they end up switching daycares, you'll be out that income since you're closing and won't be replacing anyone who leaves.

I would wait until at least the beginning of the 3rd trimester to tell them you're quitting. Obviously you're going to have to tell them sooner rather than later that you're pregnant(I guess you could tell them you swallowed a basketball) but they don't need to know until closer to your due date that you're quitting daycare. But, like the PP said too, you need to make sure that you're not telling a whole bunch of people so your parents end up finding out before you're ready for them to....

I'm due in August and have already told all of my families. But I redid contracts and took 2 weeks off, to be determined, so I felt I needed to explain, plus I just couldn't wait to tell them...

If I was closing, I would probably tell them that I'm pregnant, but I wouldn't tell them I'm closing until the end either.

          Congratulations!
