UGH! Ok, so this is my colicky baby. But he hardly sleeps at all. I am lucky to get him to take two 20 minute naps. I am so worn out.
How Much Should An 8 Month Old Sleep?!

My 9 month old dcg sleeps 1.5-2 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon (Here from 6:30a-5:15p). She does not nap or sleep well at home though so I think she catches up here. I don't get her up the second she stirs like I think happens at home so she sleeps soundly here.
eta: I have had a colicky baby (her older brother in fact) that pretty much cried his entire first year here. He still had a 1 hour nap in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon whether he slept or not. I needed the rest from his crying and he needed to learn to sleep and self sooth. Now (at almost four) he naps great for me. (Never did nap for mom though either, just like his sister.)- Flag

We have the same routine every single day, without fail. I don't go in right away, and I have been attempting to keep him in the bed until nap time is over. But his cry is so high pitched that even though he is in his own room, he ends up waking everyone. I try feeding him a bottle, changing him, he is just a miserable child. UGH- Flag

about the colic...have they had him checked for reflux/silent reflux, milk allergy, something? It seems like a really extreme case of colic, and I would think there would be an underlying cause in a child this old.
(edited to ask: does he have eczema, loose mucousy poop, red ring around his anus, anything like that?)Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

My screamer stopped at about 7 months. I have always had her in a separate room, with music playing in her room and the nap room. That seemed to drown out her screams for the other kids.
She is now 9 months old. Gets here at 7:30 ish, naps 1.5 hours morning and 2 hours afternoon, leaves 4-5.- Flag

The parents are really young (mom 18 and dad 23). I have asked them about reflux and they didn't know. They had him on a regular formula and I suggested a formula change for fussiness and gas. They switched and he stopped throwing up. But his fussiness didn't change. I love the parents to death, they are super sweet, very involved and concerned and open to suggestions. I suggested giving the Dr Browns bottles a try. Not sure if they are going to switch now. I think he was started on solids waaaaaaaaaay too early. They don't feed him ANY baby food now, they feed him whatever they are eating. I feed him baby food. Told them what the recommendations were by the state for the food program. Never noticed any eczema, weird poops, or a ring around his anus. He does have a funny mole/birth mark that I asked about. They said their doc is keeping an eye on it. He can be a sweet baby, but we have a joke that if he is awake, he is screaming. Poor boy. There is just no rhyme or reason for his screaming fits.- Flag

Hmmm...I suspect reflux then, but it still could be a food intolerance. I'd look at dairy first and soy second, if he were my child (well, if he were my child, I would have looked at it a long time ago). They should bring it up to his doctor, try to get him on reflux meds, and if he doesn't improve from there, start eliminating the top allergens and see what happens. That baby is almost certainly hurting and crying for a reason.Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

My 10 month old sleeps for at least 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, sometimes longer. According to the Mom he also sleeps through the night so I just let him sleep figuring if he is sleeping he needs it. There have been days that he has slept for 3 hours in the morning and will then get up, eat and play for a couple of hours and then go back down and sleep another 2 hours. I LOVE good sleepers!- Flag
