I just had a kid join my room who was in kindergarten in another state, but doesn't meet the birthday cutoff for kindergarten here. She said he doesn't nap, she didn't want him to nap and he would just sit and read a book. I just smiled and nodded.

Kid napped from day one and every other day since. Today he was asking for naptime .

I haven't discussed it with her. Everyone of my kids parents said their kid didn't nap at the beginning of the year and every one of them naps daily. I don't even get into it with them.

If the dcm asks, I would say "She rested", which could mean napped or sat quietly.

I do accommodate requests for not napping, as long as it is warranted. For example, I require them all to lay quietly on mats for 25-30 mins. By then, most are asleep. If after that time, a child is very quiet, and at least 3.5 years old, I will let them move to another quiet room with books. I am fortunate not to have many non-nappers, so I do have the space to spread out the kids. It would be awesome if they all napped, but the older ones have learned to read books, and sometimes watch tv if the day works out and there is no one else napping in the tv room. I have to keep this option open because I need to keep some of my older kids, and unfortunately, they don't all nap.

I'd prefer to have everyone nap, but it isn't a requirement for me. I just started a 3yr old non napper last week actually. I'm watching her making a pillow fort on her couch while watching tv.

If I was a no tv daycare, I'd have an issue. But anyone that doesn't nap has to watch a quiet time movie, and if they are good, they can do something like lego or colouring after about an hour.
