    Hold the spot? Fee?

I have an infant spot open and interviewed a family who seems like they'll be a great fit. Mom has been looking for awhile (they actually called me back in October) and has been paying college kids to babysit in the meantime. So the spot is open January 19th but she is looking to start Feb 1, two weeks after the spot opens. Would you charge a holding fee? Or charge full? Or wait?

Depends on how long you want to hold a spot for and if they are willing to pay.

I will only hold a spot for two weeks. I require a $250.00 deposit to hold the spot. After signing the holding fee agreement they only have 48 hours to change their mind and get their money back. ONce that 48 hours has passed, there is no refund.

If they don't start on their start date, I keep deposit fee and after 3 days of not attending they lose the spot.

I conduct a 2 week-paid trail. If they decide to enroll after the 2 week trial, I credit back half of the holding fee to their deposit.

After two weeks passed, the deposit fee equal to two weeks of care is due. They will get it back if they properly notify me in writing of their intent to discontinue services, 30 days in advance. I usually end up crediting it back to their last month of care.

Sorry I kind of got off track there.

Yes, I would charge a waiting fee that would compensate you for the time that you are holding it for them. THey have to understand that you will turn away other clients to secure this spot for them..
