I received this request from someone in my neighborhood, although I do not know them... I'm wondering if it's worth going through the interview process and introducing a new kid into my daycare family for a few extra bucks. Hmmm... I also will not have space in the April/May time frame for a new little one to join the group, so if she needs newborn care she'd be out of luck. I'm thinking she didn't want to pay the center for Holiday pay thinking she could find someone to cover the remaining three weeks for her child before giving birth;

Also, since she could quit at any moment, would you inflate the costs to make it worth it?

Easy cash... or big hassle. Grrrr...hate making these decisions.

My 2.5 year old daughter is out of daycare through Jan 2nd and I was considering a placement at a local in home (we also live in the Liberty Lakes subdivision) until I go into labor (due jan 27) vs. enrolling her back into the center she was at for possibly a very brief time. I am uncertain of my plan for childcare after maternity leave, I may be interseted then also. If there is an opening I would like to come for a tour ASAP.

So she's just out of daycare for the rest of this week- seems like she might be legit in looking for new care (otherwise she probably would have been looking a bit earlier when the center was about to close). As for if it's worth the risk- do you need the money? If it were me, I'd interview (if I had time) just to meet and get an in-person feeling toward the mom/situation. But let her know upfront beforehand that you do not have an infant opening at this time.

Sounds to me like she is looking to fill the time from when the center closes since she needs care now, and she might not need you afterwards, unless it turns out she really likes you. If I could use the cash, I would do it, but know it's very temporary.

I probably would not unless I needed the money. I don't like to interrupt the vibe we have here for someone who may/may not come at a later date.

I would say that if it was earlier in the month, but since it is already Tuesday the 30th, and they are only closed the rest of the week, I'd have to wonder- if they were just looking for temporary holiday care, wouldn't they have needed it already (and probably last week since that was Christmas week and I'd guess they were closed then as well)? There's always weird situations, but I can't see how finding care for just 1 or 2 days the center is closed would make sense. You never know, though! Good luck either way, keep us updated with what you decide to do

I wrote her telling her I would meet with her, gave her my daily rate, asked when she was available to meet and she sent a note back saying she still wasn't sure what decision she was making, it would be easier if she knew when the baby was coming(?) She'll let me know ASAP.

I just meant she would have had to pay for all the days the center is closed for the holidays (Wed-Fri last week & Wed/Thr this week), so most times since it's so close to her due date, she withdrew so she didn't have to pay for days her child wasn't staying, so now for 3 weeks she needs care until she goes on maternity leave. They're trying to save cash, and I get it. Maybe she's trying to get family coverage?

I most likely won't have an infant spot available for her when she returns, but for three weeks I would try it. My family is going on vacation for a week in February and it's unpaid... plus my dog will need to be kenneled while were away so I was thinking of making the extra cash to give my doggie some extra special love while we were away (posh kennel). We'll see if she gets back to me. At this point, I doubt it'll work out.
