If you offer part time, how do you handle this scenario?

Good morning! If you offer a part-time option, and you require that parents commit to set days during the week (2, 3, or 4 days, etc.), what do you do if a parent is contracted for Mondays and Wednesdays (for example), and one of your predetermined closings and/or holidays fall on one of their contracted days? Do you allow them to switch to another day for that week? Do you prorate their tuition? What if there are no other open days for them to switch to? Sorry, Charlie?

I don't change anything for them just like I don't change anything for full-timers. If the part-timer is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, and I have a paid day off on that coming Monday, they pay me my holiday pay and they come on Wednesday only that week.

A scheduled paid day off applies to full-timers and part-timers.

Thanks for this! I think I should add some clarification to my Parent Handbook about this. Because I can just see this coming up. Do you have anything in your handbook or contract about this? Any suggestions on wording?

They pay for their scheduled days and if they want to add a day they pay extra for that day. For example I have a family scheduled wed-fri and next week I closed Thursday & Friday, they stil pay the tuition for the week and if I have room I offer Monday & Tuesday at an additional cost.

I have in my contract specifically what days of the week they are contracted for. If I have room I might offer the extra days at a discount (so instead of $40/day I would offer it at $30)

I have my scheduled paid days off listed in my contract. Whenever I'm scheduled to be off, the parents don't bring their kids, but still pay me for my scheduled paid day off.

If I have space, like sahm1225 said, parents can pay extra and add a day or days whenever they want.

I typically do not do part-time. I have from time to time, but I'd rather have full-time kids.

I do the same thing. I'm a bit more flexible than most. It's never caused me a problem though.

I used to allow switching when a parent needed/wanted it but then they started switching and I'd lose out on all my paid holidays so now I don't allow it. If the holiday falls on one of their usual days they must pay for it. If they'd like to attend another day they pay for that also.

I wanted to be the nice guy and allow switching on occasion but once you allow it once it starts to become a habit and they instantly looked to change days on holiday weeks.

I knew that some parents were TRYING to take advantage when they would ask by date instead of straight out asking to trade off the holiday.
I don't mind trading if I am NOT being taken advantage of, or know the scoop and don't feel taken advantage of.
But I also feel like it is unfair to people who PAY for their paid holidays, when others tried to get out of every one.
For those reasons, I'm out. I changed my policies and don't allow trading. Unless if someone came to me and gave a reason that felt valid to me and I decided to do it.

Yes - typically I will only have one or two openings per day (if any) on a holiday week like Thanksgiving or Christmas week. I might have one dck absent because of travel and one that stays home with dcm & dcd because they are home.

So, for example, using this past Christmas week, I was closed Wed-Fri. I had 2 open slots Mon & Tues. I had 2 dck's that attend later in the week switch to Mon & Tues. Since I usually have that many kids anyway, I don't mind.

Next week I am taking Wed & Thurs off. Dcf's know I have two slots on Monday and one on Tuesday. They are free to switch for free, but first come first serve.

It's a win/win for me. I enjoy having more dck's (my days just go smoother) and the dcf's think I'm amazing for allowing them the benefit of switching days for free. More free advertising for me when they talk me up to their friends .

Families contract with me for SPECIFIC days. If the holiday falls on one of their specific days and I am closed, I do not allow them to switch days unless they pay for the additional day.

For example, if a family contracts M-W and I am closed on Monday and they would also like to add Thursday, they still pay for Monday-Wednesday as normal AND pay for Thursday as well.

However, families wanting to switch is very rare as I don't usually have available spaces for them to switch to. All full time and part time spaces are full.
