    Thinkin I'm Dodging A Bullet!

I have an ad out for an opening that I have and I received an inquiry from a woman looking for child care for her son. I always fb stalk people first and this is what I saw on her fb page:

Looking for LOVING RELIABLE SAFE daycare for my 27 month old son Nickolas. He's very active and demanding. He's going thru a biting stage so he would be better off in a home with a mature caregiver that can be on him at all times. I work Monday thru Friday 8 to 430, and I need someone dependable. I've had my job for 14 years and plan on keeping it! Please Please contact me if your interested. Thanks you

Oh, Heck NO! I had a biter and will never go through that again, especially if I know ahead of time! Would it be rude to not call her back?

Demanding biters are double the price. Just double your fees.

When you give these replies, I always wonder--does it work? I mean, I know it would work to scare people off/show them what they're asking. But I wonder if anyone ever pays double (or whatever the extra fee). I'm terrible at the business/backbone side, so it's kind of a fascinating concept to me, to charge different families different rates.

Oh my, not only would you have a biter, I think you would also have a mom who doesn't want to be bothered. The following statements tell me she doesn't want a phone call mid day to tell her to pick up jr when he bites or for any other reason.

I work Monday thru Friday 8 to 430, and I need someone dependable. I've had my job for 14 years and plan on keeping it!

So they have obviously been kicked out it sounds like. Rather than not call her back I'd call her and tell her you don't have any openings. Just better for business to not ignore her.

Good plan....but...I have an ad out on Craigslist and I have to keep renewing it until I fill the spot. Unfortunately, that's really the only way to advertise around here, everyone looks on CL.

That's tough considering you only know that information from FB stalking (which I'm totally guilty of ). I don't think I'd call her back and hope she doesn't continue the inquiry. Not the most professional perhaps, but technically, you don't officially have a good reason to deny the spot to them. If you're not comfortable with that, you could call her back and let her know that you're in the process of receiving multiple inquiries and you'll keep her posted? I don't know. It would be interesting to see if she fesses up to you about the biting. At least if she was upfront, you could decline in order to protect the safety of your group.

                Good luck!

The attitude of the dcm would concern me more than the biting. This is group care. Other children need equal attention and their parents are paying for that.

I have become well versed in the "I'm sorry but I don't think my program would be a good fit for all of your needs" line. My licensor even used that line on a parent who called to complain about no one wanting to enroll her child (because she was very needy as a parent).
