Acrylic vs Enamel Paints

I'm going to be doing the "mistletoe" project with the glass white plates with the kids. Does it matter if I do it with acrylic or enamel paint? I've read that enamel paint will crack if it's too thick, but will acrylic come off the plate faster? I'm going to spray it with a clear coat of varnish and I think they'll just be for display.

I would use water-based paint.
