Choosing Between My Cats or DCB...

Ok...well it's not really a choice...but just had a DCF of 4 months tell me to get rid of my 2 cats because they think they are giving DCB allergies...kind of had to laugh as this family has had a lot of overbearing requests in their short time here and I was so glad to finally have a solid reason to let them go! Been providing child care for 7 years now, and this is the first time I had a parent request me get rid of my cats who aren't even allowed in the playareas :/ (On a side note, I have a very clean home and even have a cleaning company come out twice a month to deep clean since I operate my business out of it.)

I would say, bye, bye to this family.

I've had cats for as long as I can remember. I've had 2 boys allergic to them, both boys left. My cats stayed.

It's incredible that a family would ask this rather than just finding a new childcare. Who would throw away a companion pet who lives with you for about 20 years for a daycare child who could be gone tomorrow? What did you tell them?

When they suggested to get rid of them and I said I wouldn't, they said they loved me and really wanted to find a solution so he could stay, maybe I could just lock the cats in a room when I do daycare...I told them that wouldn't be possible and wouldn't matter anyway as the dander would still circulate. The only solution I have for them is to find a new pet free child care provider...within the next 4 weeks.

My cats are a part of my family. No way Jose! Is he actually allergic? It could be ANYTHING. Have they spoken to the pediatrician? What are his symptoms?

DCPs have pretty bad first time parent syndrome...they take DCB to the ped at least every other week if he has the slightest sniffle or cough. (they keep him home nearly once a week if his nose is a little runny) Honestly, I think the ped just wanted to suffice them with a reason and said he might have allergies. They are trying to eliminate all possible allergens and believe my cats are contributing to his allergies :/ I've never seen him exhibit symptoms more than just a cold...no red eyes, no trouble breathing, no sneezing, not even colored mucus?

So it will be baffling to them when they find a new cat free daycare and the symptoms continue.

Oh, please keep us updated if you ever hear from them again. It will be interesting to see if they come running back to you when it turns out it wasn't the cats!

                    Lol! Oh heck no!
Don't these parents realize that our pets decrease our anxiety, stress, and depression from daycare.....::

Why don't they just have an allergy test worked up on the kid? That would pinpoint exactly what (if any) allergens are affecting him.

I would suggest this but if they are a headache I would only do so as they are on their way out the door the very last day.

No need to think twice , keep the cats.
