    Help With Child

I have a DCG that is almost 2. I have had her for a year and she is one of my best and sweetest kids. However for the past 2 weeks, she won't talk. she won't say please or no thank you or normal jibber jabber a 2 year old would do. If I say "OK lets go to the table for lunch" she stands up and and just freezes. She will stand there and I end up having to pick her up ( then she starts crying) or she will stand there and just watch everyone else and then start crying because they are getting something and she isn't. Or like today, everyone was getting a drink and I handed out cups and she just stood there and held her cup. When I said "ok ****** do you want a drink or not" she just started crying like I was scolding her. Then when I took the cup to put it up she started crying again since she didn't get a drink. I feel like I am banging my head on this one and I don't know the right way to handle it. Part of me wants to just say OK and walk away (which then she doesn't eat or pick up or have to use any manners) Or if I pick her up then she kicks and screams and acts like she is in trouble. I have spoke to the parents and they said she isn't doing it at home, and even at pick up or drop off she is the normal kid she has always been. Like I said I have had her for a year and nothing has changed. Any advice or do I just ignore and let it run its course. I don't want her to feel like she is in trouble but at the same time I refuse to cater to her.

Personally, I would just model the right language for her.

"We say, Miss Cara, can I have milk, please?"

    Then, give her the milk.

    "Thank you, Miss Cara".

She's going through a faze, if it's only there. I would not make it a fight.

You can also teach her a couple baby signs. Like please, more, drink, eat or hungry. You can find them online. Then, help her sign the words as you model them.
