What Was Your Worst Drop Off Experience?

I think mine happened this morning.

dcg 2.5 was walking up to my house with her dad. I opened the door to see him grabbing his cell phone from her, and trying to guide her into the house. She starts throwing a fit because she wants the phone back, screaming, "MY PHONE MY PHONE!". I attempt to divert her attention by showing her the baby I had in my arms and telling her we needed to close the door before he got cold. She considered it for about 2 seconds, and then turned back around and started grabbing at her dad. Her dad picked her up, stepped into the house, and she proceeded to start screaming, kicking, and punching him in the face because she wanted the phone back. At that point I told dcd, "Just put her down and walk out. I will handle the situation."

He puts her down and she's kicking, screaming, and throwing herself about on my floor - I place her in a safe spot until she calms down and it takes her 30 min. to stop screaming - all the while she's spitting, ripping clothes off, screaming at me that she has to go potty, screaming for her mom and dad, etc. while I have other parents dropping kids off.

I just keep reminding myself - it's Thursday!

Years ago, I interviewed with a family of a young elementary aged boy. He had been watched by his grandmother who would allow him to go play at his friends' houses whenever he wanted. The parents didn't want him at his friends' houses, so they decided to hire a daycare provider and not let Grandmom keep watching him. During the interview, the boy kept fussing that he didn't want to go to daycare, he wanted to go to Grandmom's.

The first day of daycare, I heard him screaming about wanting to go to Grandmom's from the minute the parents opened the car door. They pulled him by his arm with him yelling and throwing a fit the whole time. When I opened my house door, he took off running down the sidewalk yelling that he's not going to daycare, he wants to go to Grandmom's! I looked at the mother and said, "You need to go get him and I won't be able to watch him. This won't work." I watched and saw that they did get the boy in their car and that was the last I saw of them.

Tell the Dad to take the phone away from her before she gets out of the car and get her completely de-escalated BEFORE she gets yo your front door. This doesn't have ANYTHING to do with daycare. Don't bring it to daycare.

Hindsight is always 20/20. I actually spoke with the mom and dad over the phone a little bit ago and told them that from now on if anything occurs like that, they would need to take their child back to the car until she was ready to join daycare. Good to have that reinforced by your advice, though.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet with that one.

That's easy, my Klingon mom about a month ago who made herself cry and and scared all the kids to tears. BTW, she tried to backslide a few times but we nipped it in the bud.

DCM shows up at my door and hands me DCG.

In one breath she says - "Sorry but she pooped in her panties right before we left and I am late so you will have to change her. Also I forgot her lunch so if you could just fix her something quick I will repay the favour and also she refused to put shoes on so she has no shoes. See you later."

I was speechless and just watched her drive off while holding her smelly daughter.

                    Oh my!

Oh my! I'm really surprised the school thought that was appropriate...

I remember your thread about her! I'm glad you guys have been able to curb that immature behavior.

Post-term a mom brought her son in and dropped him off without looking at us or speaking directly to us.
                            Thank goodness she's gone.

When the mother explained to me how she had sprayed her kids with 'sex spray' because it made them calmer....I didn't ask or reply, just took the kids in and couldn't wait to laugh when she was gone::::::::::
