    Maternity Leave

How much notice did you give you're dcp that you were taking maternity leave? I'm currently 24 weeks along with three dcf's.

How much time did you take? Paid? Unpaid? I have my rates set at paying 52 weeks a year and two weeks paid vacation, five sick days and Paid holiday's.

Should i use my two weeks of paid vacation or two weeks unpaid because it's maternity leave?

I plan on being closed 10 working days and then having an assistant for another two or three weeks. Never done this before so I don't know the norms.

I notified my families of my maternity leave before I let them know I was pregnant ::. New contracts were sent out in December around the time I found out I was pregnant, which conveniently had a 2 week "vacation" around my due date. I later had to modify the dates slightly, but let them know "officially" the purpose for those two weeks when I hit the second trimester. So the parents had about 8 months to make appropriate plans.

I took 2 weeks maternity leave, which was supposed to be the entirety of my vacation time. I ended up taking a few additional days (2 days in March during everyone's spring break....dcp's were off anyway; 2 days in August because we moved; 1 day this week for a long weekend; and 1 day in December post-Christmas). All of the additional days were unpaid.

My dh served as my assistant when I returned from maternity leave, which helped tremendously!

Did you find that two weeks was enough? I am currently 17 weeks along and all of my parents know. My initial plan was one week with my husband using his PFL to assist for 4-5 weeks after. I am not becoming increasingly worried that is not enough time and I wont be able to bond with my baby. I have a two year old of my own and 2 other toddlers and two infants that will be 11 months by my due date.

I told my parents I would work up to the time I had my babies and then I would close a week after that with pay...I get paid 52 weeks a year....I do work with my mom so it wasn't that bad....my parents only knew when I was due, my first was right on the due date but my second was 2 weeks early..... It is up to you if you use your vacation or not....I am closed a week around Labor day and a week between christmas and New years so my "baby" weeks were extra with pay.... Best wishes to you!

I told my families as soon as I found out. Pretty much order went: parents/family, daycare families, everyone on facebook . I can't keep it a secret very long I figured the more notice I could give them the better. But I also knew my families well enough to know they'd all be excited. Now, my maternity leave is stated in my contract. I will have a c-section (medically necessary) for any future birth. I take two weeks off unpaid during the time. My doctors appointments can typically be scheduled for evenings and weekends but in the event they're not able to, those days (I would only take the morning or afternoon off) are paid as normal. Easier then dealing with "half" rates or anything like that, which I don't offer anyways. I wish I could have taken more then two weeks but it was hard for families to come up with temporary care for two weeks. Trying to find it for the typical 6-8 would have been a big struggle and I only know for sure of one family who would 100% have came back if they had to do that.
