    Oh how I love mondays

Dcm comes this morning with her 7 mo and 3 yo. 3 yo is eating popcorn and dcm tells me that they both went to sleep at 6 pm last night. Great, nap time should be fun! She also said the baby has ringworm on the inside of her leg which is being treated and covered with a bandage.
3 yo dcg had ringworm (I previously posted about it). If it can spread from one sister to another it can spread to dcks here. I asked if she could figure out how the baby got it from her sister and she just shrugged. Oh happy monday.

Did mom not realize that ringworm is contagious?

Hopefully the day gets better from here!

You have more patience than I do!

I would so be calling for pick up if they are a disaster at nap time.

No, I don't have any patience left with this mom so I will be calling for pick up if her kids don't nap. 6 o'clock is just way to early of a bed time.

I have never dealt with ringworm before. Not until her 3 yo had it. If 3 yo is being treated and is bandaged I really don't understand how the baby could have gotten it. I'll be having a talk with her at pick up about this. Not really sure what to say but I am afraid of it spreading here if they can't keep it contained.

Just because you require it to be bandaged doesn't mean mom does it at home. It's easy to explain how the baby caught it at home.

It's highly contagious if not covered.

I'll bet mom or dad spread it by not keeping it covered and poor hand hygiene. Touched dcg 3 then changed the baby's diaper and voila! Baby has ringworm

Do I need to worry about it spreading more here? Both are bandaged and covered with clothing also.

Ahhhh yes….. my 3 year old apparently slept from 5pm last night until 3am this morning. I am expecting the meltdown to begin in about an hour!

As for ringworm, as a mom of 2 wrestlers we've dealt with it before. It is easily spread thru contact. Some how even my teenage daughter got a spot and god knows she doesn't like to be anywhere near her brothers!!!

Good question. If they are not taking proper precautions at home then it may be elsewhere on them and hasn't formed the rash yet.

I would think that if you are taking precautions it "should" be fine. I would wash their hands immediately when they arrive, and several times throughout the day, beyond your normal handwashing. Keep it covered and wash YOUR hands many times throughout the day.

Handwashing is THE number one way to prevent the spread of germs. I work in the medical field and my hands are washed before and after contact with EVERY patient and in between as well. Of course this is very hard to do in daycare, to wash your hands after contact with each child, but if you have hand sanitizer close by you could use it several times throughout the day.

This is a lot of work though. If you don't feel like you could keep up with it, I would tell mom they have to stay home until it clears. If it were me personally, I wouldn't want it in my home.

Ugh! This is one of those things, I think I would exclude for until the rash/lesions were gone.....

Our info sheets say exclusion as follows:

Childcare or School: Until treatment has been started or if the lesion cannot be covered. If on the scalp, until 24 hours after treatment has been started.

Any child with ringworm should not participate in gym, swimming, and other close contact activities that are likely to expose others until 72 hours after treatment has begun or the lesions can be completely covered.

I know it says it's okay if covered but "highly" contagious and close contact is just too much for me...

It's rough here this morning! Meltdown after meltdown. I'd love to implement a new procedure for new interviewees. "Before enrolling your child in my daycare program, I will observe your family's weekend routine." Lol, not that I'd do it, but goodness....it's obvious which ones have some kind of normalcy on the weekends, and which ones don't.

This dcm likes to blur the details. If I push to keep dcg out for 72 hours she will claim it has been treated for 72 hours already. I think I will talk to her about what this means for me, my family, my business and the other dcks. I am going to let her know that I expect her to take this seriously and let me know what she plans to do to prevent this from spreading any more. I want her to make this a priority and I if I don't feel it is then I may not continue care. I don't want to term over ringworm I just want to make it clear that she needs to take this seriously. Ugh....it's always something with this one.
