Got A Cat-Notify Parents? Pl Help With Wording

    Hello,
I am a family day care provider, taking care of 8 kids at my house. We just adopted a little kitten. My question is - should I tell parents that we got a cat? He got all of his immunization shots and pretty healthy. We are also planning to keep him away from the day care during the day. Could you also help me with the wording of the email/letter that I need to send to the parents. Thank you! Galina

Yes, I think you should notify the families just in case someone is allergic. Not sure of the wording. Let them know of the kitten and your plan of keeping it away from dc areas.

Be prepared for someone to be upset.

In some states you must notify parents in writing and have them sign off that you did notify them that you have pets in the home .

When we got our kitten, I notified all of the parents (verbally) even though we planned to keep him upstairs, away from the day care. I have 2 parents who are highly allergic to cats so they were concerned but felt better after I assured them the cat would have no contact with the kids. The cat is allowed to come downstairs after the day care is closed. He roams the entire house, including the day care room. It's been a year and so far, it hasn't been an issue for either parent or any of the kids.

          Dear parents,

We have added a fur baby to our family! She/he is a XX weeks old kitten named Fluffy Butt. We intend to keep Fluffy Butt away from the daycare area during business hours, but still wanted to inform you of our new addition!

          Thanks!

I would just tell them. Unless someone has an allergy, they probably won't care.

            From my policies:

Animals are an important part of our home life and my Curriculum as they present numerous learning opportunities. The classroom will have a room pet, and my family will have both indoor and outdoor pets. If you request your child have no direct contact with these animals, please let me know. I cannot guarantee they will not interact with our pets.

That is how I would do it too I might add an extra sentence about how fluffy butt enjoys long walks on the beach and mimosas, but pretty much

In my regulations we need to inform parents prior to any pet addition.
