Homeschooling and Daycare?

The talks are NOT going well with my son's school. I kept him home today after a rather ridiculous email from the teacher Friday.

My son was lunch helper. He was required to get out the lunch boxes and bring them to the table. (milk) Money fell out of one of the bags but ds didn't know which bag, ds put it on his desk, finished handing out the lunch bags. His teacher saw the money. Ds told her it fell out of a bag. He lost EVERY stupid ticket thing for lying and theft, lost recess and had to go the principals office.

There was more- but that takes the cake. I'm sooo done.

Ds has worn the toes of his (brand new, for school ONLY) sneakers down to the SOCK. I asked him how that happened? He showed me how he rubs them along the floor when he's upset in class.

Breaks my heart. I thought they were supposed to get him into a new classroom!?!?

There are a lot of free homeschool curriculums, boxed ones, there is an online public school you can do from home, and several online Christian homeschooling curriculums for grades 3-12 which is the route I am planning to take once my little is in 3rd since that'd be easiest for me and allows her to get through it at her pace however quickly she would like to.

Is it still the same teacher? If it is, what's wrong with her?!

Does he like the computer? We use time4learning.com and love it. It's inexpensive and pretty much a complete curriculum.

On a side note I'm pretty sure I would be filing a complaint against this teacher. She is clearly not equipped to deal with your son and her "system" doesn't seem to work since she doesn't follow her own rules for it. So, so, so angry for your son right now.

I am really wanting to pull mine out as well. How old is your DS?

Breaks my heart....how can some teachers and other kids be so cruel and how do some of these teachers keep their jobs!!!

The teacher my DD had last year was such a great liar that she made my husband and I look like idiots every time we approached the principal about things.

I have been combining homeschool and daycare for over 25 years. There are tons of options to choose from, but you CAN do this. At his age even doing nothing would be better than having him face that stress all year. Pulling him out for even one year to avoid this would be worth it. That woman is totally killing any love of learning your little one might still have.

Following. I'm really curious about the curriculums used. I'm seriously thinking of pulling my 7th grader. But cost is a huge factor. I want the best for her, but cannot afford to drop a grand on a curriculum.

We met with the principal, and although he was supportive he wants us to try working it out. Well, I'm done trying that, and he got an email, her cc'd with HER email forwarded that essentially said "we're done, let me know when you find a new classroom for ds and he can return to school."

I'm all about consequences, but this teacher is a BULLY on a power trip.

My ds is 6.

My K dcg is having meltdowns at school. NEVER, NOT ONCE was she an issue for me behaviorally. EVER. She is a wonderfully sweet child who could sit, listen and has amazing self help, social skills, and self control. Her parents are aghast at the 'red' notes coming home.

Neighbor down the street's K child, same issue- but good at school and losing it at home. Throwing things, screaming, crying, you name it.

Ds's 4th grade best friend is now seeing a counselor because he said he wanted to kill himself and can't take life.

What are we DOING to our children???

I'm pulling mine as soon as the doors open tomorrow. I can't send her to school like this anymore. I'm registering with a non Christian cover church (we're not Christian and didn't want to have to submit a statement of faith) who is very hands off and will take the next few days to decide on a curriculum. Any suggestions for something well rounded and affordable would be greatly appreciated!

Diva, you're doing the right thing. Your boy deserves better than what this teacher has to offer. I can only hope she isn't treating the other children this way.

It really depends a lot on what your child needs, where she is, and how much independent work she can do, as well as how much time YOU have available. Feel free to PM me if you want to work through those items and come up with a curriculum for her. There are TONS of options, but many can be easily purchased (or found) on the internet for very little cost.
You also may have a public school at home option.

I plan to homeschool /unschool. Check out Penelope Trunk's education blog. It's great. She's brilliant. She uses so much research to explain how and why homeschooling is awesome and why you don't need to go broke doing it. She addresses working while homeschooling often and financial concerns as well.

You are doing the right thing. What a horrible teacher.
