Caught lying to get a free sick day...

I offer two sick days/year per family. There are specific rules to it, must not be in attendance at all, and actually BE sick- can't use them for days off, vacation,my paid vacation/days off, etc.

DCM texted to say dck wouldn't be in today- using a sick day.

Only had 4 kids so we went to the playground for outside time today.

Guess who was there with grandma?

I texted dcm a pic of dcg and my other 4 to say that I was glad dcg was feeling better.

    UGH!!!!!!

Years ago at a training we were advised that IF we were going to allow sick days, we should allow them ONLY if accompanied by a Dr's note stating they were sick and had a visit.

That way ONLY truly sick days are used as sick days.

I know most parents don't run to the Dr every time they are sick but if the child is truly ill and they want the sick day credit, they'll figure it out.

Now...I'll be waiting for an update on DCM's reaction all day....Be sure to keep us posted..

Maybe dcm was sick and dcg was staying with grandma all day?

Sometimes grandmas do naughty things - like take sick kids to the park.

BUT that doesn't mean he was really sick.

I'm curious to know what her response to your text was!

Nope, dcm is at work. The text specifically stated dcg was sick. Dcg is not sick, according to the poor oblivious grandma.

          No response yet.

Did you talk to grandma? I'm curious what she had to say for herself if/when she realized who you were - and if she thought that you were unable to take her, or if mom lied and said she was keeping her home? I kind of love it when people get caught in their web of lies. Karma at it's finest.

I know grandma, she has dropped off/picked up on occasion. She lives with the parents, but is in her late 70's. She can't handle dck full time.

Dcg saw us and came running over to hug us all. Grandma was CLUELESS. It wasn't her fault, and I didn't pry. Just asked how dck was feeling since dcm's text this morning (confused look, says just fine) and then we chatted about the kids and I mostly watched dck anyway. Again, grandma is OLD.

I don't understand this...is dcm that short on cash that lying for a sick day will make or break her? Because then she has much bigger problems.

Not that I am aware of. Dck is healthy, and the days expire at the end of Dec. so I think she's just trying to space out her free days to not arouse suspicion.

I'm going to add a drs note to my sick days next year! Great idea BC!

I don't give sick days, I give free missed days. They are for last minute unexpected absences due to illness (parent's or child's), last minute appointment, winter road closures. Once they are used up that's it for the year.

Ditto. I give as many days as you attend per week. So if you are part time 3 days = 3 free days per year (after 6 months).

I guess I am mean. I dont give any free days for any reason.

However, I had a dck that was very ill and ended up in the hospital and was out two weeks. I allowed them to use their week of 1/2rate pay that is normally only allowed to be used for vacation.

If I did have this policy then I would just expect for parents to use it at their discretion for whatever their reason may be.

I had a dcp that went camping 3 weeks ago, took off 3 days from work. 2 weeks later her kid ends up sick and dcm is crying that she has no time off left from work as she used her sick days to go camping.....SORRY not my problem....

I don't give "sick days" either....

I offer one free week of vacation per family/year, and it has to all be taken in one lump sum, based on their enrollment. If they attend 3 days a week, they get 3 days free.

Honestly, if I had a family that I knew was struggling financially, and needed to miss days based on finances or the child missed a day due to being sick, I would probably cut them a break, IF they were being honest and upfront about it.
But since this family you said doesn't seem to be financially struggling, I would be rather upset too.. WHY can't people just be honest?
