I want to potty train, parents don't?

Dcg 2.5 years, extremely advanced, totally and completely ready to potty train. We could probably have it knocked out in a few days. But Dcparents have no interest in potty training her?? WTH? Really? Dcm is pregnant, so I would think they would want #1 out of diapers before #2 arrives.

If you've been in this situation, do you abide by the parents wishes? Or do you move forward anyway? Technically, my house, my rules. But that could be taking it a bit far.

I have one here that refused to even try at home. I bought a potty chair that matched my son's and offered to let him go with my son...he is doing better than my son at potty training! If you think she's ready-give it a try at your house-the parents may not be seeing the same readiness cues that you are. Just remember that without support from home, you may just be banging your head against the wall!

It depends. On a lot of factors. If the child has met ALL of MY readiness points... Such as able to pull own pants up and down... Can verbalize BEFORE they have to go... Can stay dry for a reasonable period of time... Etc.. Then yes, I would leave them in diapers for two weeks, attempt the training.. And if they are accident free for two weeks, I'd put hem into undies at daycare and see what happens.

Its easier when they are in diapers. Parents can change them when its convenient for them. Having a toddler potty training means having to find bathrooms on the spur of the moment when out. Having to change wet clothes and bedding ect.

I've had 2 dcg's fully trained here, and not going at all at home. I think the parents have to be ready, even though the kids have already done it. I just let it be, kept them going potty here. One day, dcm exclaimed they had trained dcg over the weekend (after she had been going here for months) :: Oh, ok, dcm ::

I think there is a difference between introducing and training. I would introduce and encourage if I felt the child was ready but I would not train.

I have done this twice and those kids trained here and then home. I don't ask. I tell the parents that I feel they are ready, to please send underwear and many changes of clothing, and that I will be putting away my rugs and going for it. I potty them at the normal intervals we do breaks. If they have many accidents over 3 days then we hang up the idea. If they stay dry or have one accident, we are underwear wearing kids. I don't advertise this service as I only offer it on VERY rare occasions when I think a child will not have an accident here. I have a big group so the intensive potty training wouldn't ever happen.

Yep, I introduce all children from 18m on. They sit on the potty after I clean them up from a dirty/wet diaper. We sing the potty song and then put the clean diaper on. The is no pressure or stress about it. I change them every 2 hours (or more if needed) if they are dry at the 2hour mark and go in the potty I assume they are ready. I might take them as often as once an hour if I think they get it, just can't hold it quite as long. So far all dcks I have trained have been totally trained here before home.

And I waited until after my 2nd was born to start training my 1st...wished I hadn't. Missed all the her readiness signs and she was over it - enthusiasm wise, by the time I was ready so it took forever. I should have listened to her cues and not my convenience...my bad

I would just go ahead and train in diapers just at my house. I've had lots of kids that were totally dry here (still in diapers) before they would even look at a potty at home. Kids are capable of understanding different rules for different places.
