Kansas Providers Napping Question

Hey girls, I have a reg questions for you regarding napping: at what age must a child be transferred from a pack n play to a nap mat or cot? Is there any exception to this rule, via exception form or parent permission form?

There has been some serious debate about it on my county's FB daycare page and I just wanted to clear it up. I'll call licensing tomorrow during nap if I can't figure it out here.

(e) Transition from crib or playpen. The determination of when a child who is 12 months of age or older is ready to transition from a crib or a playpen to another napping or sleeping surface shall be made by the parent or guardian of the child and by either the applicant with a temporary permit or the licensee. The requirements of paragraphs (c)(3) and (4) for a child using a crib or playpen shall apply.

I am not in KS, but I have a 3.5 yo who still sleeps in a pack in play. He doesn't climb out, is comfortable with the feeling of being IN something and sleeps very well. I would think, in most cases, comfort and safety override a specific age.

What BlackCat posted is correct (of course ), and my surveyor told me to just to have signed statement from the parents that they were aware I was continuing to use the pnp, and that they agreed. Then keep updating it every 6 months if still needed.

PPs all have it right, as I know it. The only extra info is that the child has to still be within the manufacturers guidelines for height and weight. And, we have to have the PnP paperwork in our files.

Do you know which reg says we have to have the PNP paperwork in our files? I've never been asked for that and I've never seen that in the regs.

K.A.R. 28-4-116a. Napping and sleeping (c) (3) Each crib and each playpen shall be used only for children who meet the manufacturer’s recommendations for use, including any age, height, or weight limitations. The manufacturer’s instructions for use, including any recommendations for use, shall be kept on file at the facility
Page 59 in the reg book. At my initial visit (I just started my home daycare on August) my surveyor did ask to see it in my files, and asked me to highlight the weight limit. I got my PNPs secondhand from my niece and nephew's grandma from the other side of the family when she stopped needing them for their overnight stays, and she didn't have the manual anymore. I just looked it up online and printed it. I'd be glad to help you do the same if you need it

My KDHE lady who does my annual inspections sent out an email last month. Part of the email "reminded" us that the PnP paperwork needs to be in our paper files. If we don't have the original manual, we need to go online and print one out. I always kept mine in the little plastic sleeve under the mattress that the PnP came with. After the email, I just moved it into my file cabinet.
