Kids Sitting on Me

There is probably a really simple answer, but I'm out of them right now. Every one of my kids feels they have to sit on my lap all.the.time. They fight over it. I have already rinsed and repeated, "No sitting on Ms. Midaycare" so many times, but it just doesn't matter.

I am an easy bruiser so I really need them not to jump on me. I do not have any adult sized chairs in the daycare because of the issues talked about yesterday in the other thread! So I'm always down on their level.

Any ideas? Besides the bruising, I'm tired of kiddos screaming and fighting over a "lap spot". And when I say "no" ... Oh the tears!

I'm generally not allowed to sit down, either. Chair or floor, they are on me.

Do you own one of those fold out camping chairs? Maybe keep one of those up out of reach in the playroom. Then, when you want to sit, pull it down. It's a grown up chair, though, so NO KIDS ALLOWED.

I love cuddling my little friends, but sometimes it's a bit overboard here, too!

I rarely sit down during the day, although I do kneel/squat to be at their level. That may change though... Yesterday I was kneeling and the 16 mo old lifted the back of my sweatshirt - twice. Then later when I was squatting to put away some books he put his hand down my pants. Today every time I've gotten down at their level I've made sure that he was IN FRONT of me. ::

I do stand most of the day, ! I have a reading program here and we read insane amounts. The kids love it, I love it, the parents love it. But the minute I get on the floor to read to them...whoosh! There they all are, fighting over who gets to sit on me and injuring me with their little kicks.

I have the same dck except its a girl. She loves to put her hand down my shirt

I sit on the floor to read through out the day and I sit with my legs in a V so one kid sits inside my lap (but not on my) and then the rest can sit beside me. I developed this when pregnant .

When we are having structured reading time - like right before naps. I sit on a big person chair and they sit on my couch. OR I sit on the toy box and they sit on the rug in front of it.

The kids know my chair is MY CHAIR in the kid room. I am not mean about it, but it is a rule they know they must follow like no hitting etc.

it should be a teacher's chair. In this way you will not use a word "mine"
I have here a teacher's chair and a teacher's table (i don't allow them put on and take from it anything) and a teacher's computer. No one try to use them more then a couple times. They also don't touch a camera and a cellphone. I can leave all that stuff everywhere. Usually the youngest one (19mo) comes to me and shows where I left it and then I put it on my table :-)))

If you include assigning daily tasks in circle time I would create a new job.... "Lap sitter." You know like line leader, table setter, weather etc.

That way each child is assigned a turn and you can stop the arguing for the others when its not their turn.

I would sit on my "teacher" chair and assign all the kids a different color rug to sit on. Maybe giving them their own rugs will take the focus off of sitting on you. I read to the kids a lot too but they are always sitting in front of me.

I would sit on my "teacher" chair and assign all the kids a different color rug to sit on. Maybe giving them their own rugs will take the focus off of sitting on you. I read to the kids a lot too but they are always sitting in front of me.

I do have rugs for them but don't use them. Good idea!

I banned "lap sitting" a long time ago Too many arguments over whose turn it was, etc. And honestly I find I get "touched out" very easily A quick hug or high five or hair ruffle, I'm good.

EXACTLY this!!!!! Except, the youngest in care is my own young toddler.

Same here. When one of the older ones sits in my lap, I gently reposition them back on the floor. I will hold a little hand, or put my hand on a child's back so they feel secure, but I need to be able to get up immediately if someone gets hurt or needs me- can't do that with a kid in my lap. I do let the littlest one sit in my lap for a book, or until they are comfortable and crawl off on their own.
