What A Bummer!

A month ago, I lost one child to preschool and one of my dcm's quit her job and dropped dcb from full time to p/t. Both children were in the 30 month and up age group (here in MI, we can only have 4 kids under 30 months). I placed an ad almost as soon as I found out, trying to enroll a child who is 30 months and up. I had the ad for 4 weeks and only had one call that lead to an interview, for twins that were 3. I passed on them because in order to take both of them, I would have to tell my two p/t families that they can only come on certain days and I like to be able to have these 2 p/t kids come on different days that they need (one has a set schedule, but often comes an extra day, for which I make more).

So, I changed my ad to include 6 months and up and had to give two of my p/t 30 month and under children a two week notice so that I could take on a p/t 30 month and under child. Well, of course as soon as I did that, the calls started coming in for infant care. I had an interview last week with a dcm and dcg who is 10 months old. Dcm ended coming back again with dcd this week so he could meet me and take a tour. Dcm chose me and came yesterday and put down a deposit.

Soooo of course, I get an email this morning for a child who is 2 1/2 -the exact age I have been looking for, for the past 4 weeks! I am so bummed! I already gave my p/t kids (who I didn't want to let go, I had tears when dcb left yesterday) notice and have a deposit to start the 10 mo. old.

Of course this would happen to me.

The hardest part of this job is trying to see into the future, which is absolutely impossible! :hug:

Hopefully, this client will be with you longer though... and I'd keep the contact info for this other family just incase something doesn't work out, maybe they'd be willing to start with you down the road when you have openings.

happyface Yes, absolutely! Or, do a 2 week notice with the infant and tell the other family that you are doing that and will contact them in 2 weeks to let them know if you will be having an opening.

I should, but I did like the infant. Plus, they gave a two week notice to their daycare center so I would feel bad. I love infants and my program is geared towards infants/toddlers, but it just stinks that I had to term two good families. But one only came 2 days every other week and the other one day a week-both to socialize. Hopefully in January when ds turns 2.5, I can take them back as they both said they would come back and it's a little extra money for easy kids. (well one is easy anyways)
