The Nap Crier

I have had a child here for 1 month and she has never been to daycare or a preschool prior to now (she is 4). About every other naptime we have here she will randomly be crying on her cot. I see if it will stop. If it doesn't after a few minutes, I will go give her a hug, ask her what is going on, and she will tell me. It is either she needs to go potty, she misses her mom, her eye hurts, etc. Has anyone else had a random nap crier? If so, how do you get it to stop? I really don't need 1 child waking up 7 others with sobbing and I want to be sensitive to this child's needs...but, 1 month later???

*Side note: She has a very outgoing personality outside of here but is very quiet and reserved while here. She is very sweet and often tells her parents she wants to stay here with me. So, it isn't that she dislikes it here...?

When I have a new dck, I give them one chance in the nap room. If they disrupt naptime, I'll move them out until the adjust better and then, after they are napping well near me, I'll transition them back into the naproom. One (2.5), I would have to hold his hand until he went to sleep for a week-after that, he could do it on his own. After a few days of going to sleep on his own, I was able to move him in with the other kids. It's a pain, but I think it's better than having ALL of the kids awake. When I move them out of the nap room, I bring their cot so that they're used to sleeping on it-I think it makes it easier to do it that way.

My daycare rooms are all open and connected. There are no doors except the back door, front door, and bathroom door. So, EVERYONE can hear EVERYTHING. The only separating I do is having the littlest ones in the kitchen with me.

:: That would amplify it since my ceilings go to the second story in the hallway areas. I guess I just cope!

I have a hallway the exact size of the cots I use - its like magic

I give one verbal warning about being quiet or staying on the cot and after that, that child is moved with their cot to the hall. We then restart back in the main room the next day. It doesn't eliminate the noise, but the good nappers survive and it trains the "problem" napper within a week or so.

Well, 4.5yo graduated from that to peeing on the cot. So, after 2 times she is now in pull-ups at naptime and mom is NOT happy about it.
She peed her pull-up yesterday, peed her pull-up today and it leaked onto her sheet causing me to change the sheet and help her get changed into a new pull-up as well...
Then, attempted to get up and walk away from her cot after 10 minutes on it again. :confused:

wow so she is crying a lot still and now regressing in potty training? it is possible that something is going on at home or that she just isnt adjusting to daycare well even though she may be well behaved in your care. For me, an un-potty trained 4 year old that is disruptive at nap time is just not worth and I would replace her if possible. That is too much extra work when she should be socialized and potty trained by now. Perhaps mom should consider a part time preschool option or something for a slower transition as not every child will thrive in an all day group care environment.

I agree also. It doesn't sound like a natural transition into daycare. Something may be going on at home. Maybe a major change.

Oh geez! From bad to worse... I agree maybe another program would be a better fit since dcg is having such a rough go at nap. Or, maybe dcm can pick up everyday at nap? At her age, can you just give her a book or quiet activity? Would that help make it seem like a break and not a nap (even though it is)?
