What Do You Do When You're Sick?

I've been feeling pretty crummy for the last few days --I'm partway through the day today and I'm curious what other providers do when they feel sick during the middle of the day do you call parents to come get their children etc.? I do in home and I have 3 dck.

If I can't make it through the day, then yes, I call the parents for pick up.
It does not happen often, but honestly, the times that I did call parents for a middle of the day pick up, the parents seemed almost happy to use as an excuse to be getting out of work early for. Unlike the sick call in the morning cancelling the whole day, that they can sometimes be a little snitty about.
    Hope your feeling better soon

I work. I go throw up, and keep working. I go to the bathroom, do what I have to do, and keep working.

My only problem with that possibility is passing it on to kiddos...

I have set my contract up to protect me on days like this....I have NOT used a sick day for myself except for pregnancy/birth but have for family members..(7 days when my dad was in his final days at the hospital, some days when my brother had 2 heart attacks in 3 months time)....I get paid 52 weeks per year....while I don't feel I abuse this rule, but I do use it to be able to do what I need to do for my own family and not struggle financially in the process.

ME TOO! I don't worry too much about passing it on to the kids. Chances are it came from them so, ya know....

I've never done it mid-day, but if the illness came on suddenly and I couldn't function I would. It would have to be pretty debilitating though.

I actually find that when I close half day (preplanned closing) it seems more difficult for parents to get here - can't imagine a sudden closing.

What I might do in your shoes is solider through the rest of today and then call off for tomorrow - three day weekend happyface
In all seriousness it would give you one FULL day of rest so maybe your weekend wouldn't completely stink.

Nope, no can do. If I'm puking I'm usually too sick to stay on my feet. Once I thought I had morning sickness but by lunch I'd call my sub & gone to bed. I sent the parents a FYI email & most of them picked up early. The next time I called before opening & told them I wa too sick to open. I've only had to close for illness 3x in 15 years. (Knock on wood!)

                  Same here!
I've only been open for just about 2 years, but never have called parents because I was sick. I rarely get sick. I did once and I just let the kids do what they wanted while I sat on the floor or at the table.

I think in the last 10 years, I've only called in once or twice.
