I Have to Command Orders to Him Like A Drill Sergeant

The little boy who's mother didn't let him sleep...

The mother and grandmother have been letting him sleep the 12 hours each night that he needs. But then he still sleeps 4 hours here! Which is WAY longer than my nap time, but at least he's finally getting the sleep he needs.

However, Whenever I say anything to him nicely, he immediately cries or does a fake force whine cry thing. I have also noticed that any time I tell him to do something he doesn't want to do, such as clean up, sit in a different chair, etc. he immediately cries or does that forced whine/cry thing. One day, I had enough of his crying, and in a demanding voice commanded (not yelling, but commanding like a drill sergeant) to him, 'Go play and do not cry' It was the first time in weeks that he actually went and played happily!! How weird! Then I remembered that his grandmother told me that their neighbors told her that they hear the mother yelling at the child all the time. So, maybe that's the only way he will listen; if you command an order to him.

Oh wow! I once had a child in my pre-k class that no teacher could control before me. He was an awesome kid, but the second he was reprimanded, he erupted. One day, I was spraying down the tables (and looking down), and I called across the room to tell him to stop running. He immediately listened, and was perfectly calm- that's when I realized, you could reprimand him, you just couldn't look him in the eye while doing so. I kept my secret, and everyone was impressed with how I was able to control him. I did tell dcm so she would have success at home, too. Though I wouldn't want to have to be a drill Sargent with your dcb, if it works and you don't have to yell, then go for it ::
