    Parents...SMH

This afternoon I responded to an email to a prospective parent confirming an interview for tomorrow evening.

Fast forward to this evening (after DC hours) I am making dinner and in my pjs - no makeup, hair in a ponytail and someone starts banging on my door. I never answer the door unless I am expecting company so I let it go. This little girl proceeds to bang on my door, ring my door bell then jiggle and shake my door trying to open it....?!?!?! I finally answer it and this little girl tries to push past me into my house! I had to put my hand out to stop her because I had no idea who it was. Turns out it was the daughter of said prospective parent, who was waiting in my driveway. Wth? I get (sorta) that days can get mixed up...but if my own daughter did that to someone's door, I would be mortified!

    Whaaaa?

    How old was this child?

Was the parent trying to drop them off?

That's just rude of them! You're not enrolling/interviewing tomorrow, right? I mean clearly they already failed the interview. I've never had a parent let their kids run up to the door and bang on it by themselves at the interview....they usually wait until after they are enrolled to pull that stunt (which is worse). Letting their kid run up to a stranger's house alone is just such a red flag to me...

      Wait.. what?

They were still in the car or am I missing something? Even if they weren't who in their right mind shows up to an interview and let's their kid do that?

Idk what your plan is with them, but I'd pass. And I'd tell them exactly why.

Why do parents think that is cute? Rude. Rude. Rude. Fail. Fail. Fail.

I would cancel the interview & say I wouldn't enroll the child. Aside from getting the day wrong, that just sounds bizarre. If they do that before you even start care, I can't imagine what they would pull once they enrolled.

This is a disaster in waiting....

So they had the wrong day for the interview? Or were they dropping her off for daycare without an interview?

Amen. This will be the child that goes DINGDINGDINGDINGDING before you're open, the Mom that expects to just open her car door and let the kiddo out to go to daycare (ESPECIALLY when the child is ill!), the child that runs into the street at random because Mom isn't watching, etc.

She had the interview day wrong. I even went back and looked at the emails - I specifically said "an interview Tuesday evening at 6:30 would be great"

My front door is in sort of like an alcove so you can't see my driveway from the peephole in the door. My doors have chimes on them so when I opened the door I think she heard me and that is when she stepped into view.

I am passing on this family - I had the exact thought as the poster above who said if they do this now, what would they do once enrolled? I just could not believe that 1) the 3 year old thought doing that to a strangers door was okay and 2) mom allowed it!

Did you cancel the interview when she was there yesterday? Or are you going to still interview and then pass? That is so dangerous and rude of the parent to allow their child to do that!

She emailed and asked to reschedule for Thursday and I have not responded yet. Not sure if I should interview then pass just to save face (small town) or if I should just decline now so I don't waste both of our time. Although I have a feeling she wouldn't show up if I scheduled it anyway...

I would be polite and honest and not waste either of your time.
I, too, live in a small town and I had one lady got bat poop crazy on me for not rescheduling her interview when she no called no showed because she scheduled a job interview for 30 minutes prior to our daycare interview. Many people in my community took up for me and told her she took up MY family's time and was rude to not even call ahead of time to reschedule. People know what crazy looks like...I'm sure all who know her know how they are...

                        "Sue,
Thank you for e-mailing to reschedule. Unfortunately, I no longer feel as though we would be a good fit after our exchange yesterday evening. I wish your family the best in finding a great daycare!"

Unless you've advertised on a public place or told her you have multiple spots, I would say someone else has taken the spot but it was nice meeting you.

I would still interview. I had a kid who acted horribly at the interview. Demanded a snack and pitched a fit. Guess what? He is nothing like that here and I'm so glad I have him.

It's not the kid- it's the mom. If she's letting her child do that for an interview, who knows what she's going to try to pull if she's a client?!
