    Boredom

I feel like my kids were bored a lot last week and then again this morning... and it's driving me crazy!! Because we all know when kids are bored that's when rowdiness and trouble happens! This morning I feel like I'm constantly redirecting.

What do you do to avoid boredom? What toys/activities are your kids into right now?... although sometimes I feel like the toys don't even matter. I bought a brand new train table about a month and a half ago and they're pretty much over that!

I don't think it has much to do with the toys all the time...I think it's more that kids are used to others entertaining them or they are avid screen kids...where they watch TV or play video games that entertain them.

I think more and more children lack the ability to know how to play, thus they are always bored.

I don't think I even knew what bored meant until much later in life and certainly not during any part of my childhood.

If you have a boy heavy group, I find they crave the physical stuff. I recently bought an indoor slide, and they go crazy with it (in a good way), even the older ones. I just try re-arranging the playroom when I find they are getting too wild. Just some ideas

I rotate toys so I can bring "new" toys out every few months. Rearrange! I actually just did that this morning because "I" was bored The kids are busy playing!

I also rotate toys. I find if they are not engaged that usually helps. I try to add things that invite to be played with. Last week when they seemed to be less engaged than normal I pulled out a random math bin - https://www.facebook.com/MrsSteinels...type=1&theater
they are still playing with it. I find that a collection of "interesting things" does more than new toys. So a plastic pool filled with tissue and maybe hidden letters or pom poms etc can lead to hours of play.

When my kids start bouncing off the walls I'll pull out a toy that hasn't been rotated in for a while, or put on music and have a dance party until they're tired. Sometimes all it takes is to put new art supplies on the table - stencils, glitter/stinky/rainbow crayons, etc.

I can't figure out how to add links in here. Maybe a mod can for me? I got it on amazon, "little tikes first slide " for $34.99. They also have a larger one for $95, depending on your budget. They also had it at toys r us and target, so you might consider shopping around

                          Amen to this!!

It is sad that kids can now be in a room full of toys and not know how to play. It is something that is very difficult to teach as well. I find that when my group gets like this, I will get down on the floor and play with the toys myself. They are amazed to see me playing dolls or cars. Often they will join in and eventually I can step back.

I have one DCG here who is constantly being entertained and they are never home! Every single day DCM comes in and says - Tell Mrs **** where you went last night!

I have to bite my tongue.

This DCG gets so antsy after 3-4 days of being stuck at my house every day and will become aggressive with the other DCKS because she gets so bored.

When I was a kid, my mother never took me anywhere. I just hung out at home and played.

                          Kids are spoiled rotten now.
