DCM's Hours Changed At Work...

and I agreed to change her schedule from 7-4 to 8-5. They also moved closer, so dcb was getting up at 6:15 and is now getting up at 7:45!

But now dcb (3) doesn't nap. AT ALL, EVER. He can hardly lay down at rest time and used to be OUT COLD within minutes.

I do not take non napping kids other than my very selective 1 SA. SA plays with my own kids/SA during nap so I still get a break/lunch clean up done.

He doesn't respond to books on CD, books, puzzles, busy bags, or A N Y T H I N G. He is not quiet, I don't have a completely separate area to put him in where I can adequately supervise him and the other 5 kids. I can't have him watch TV (per regs)but I'm sure he would zone out and be quiet for that.

He's also not hungry/won't eat breakfast on arrival at 8 and by 9 is whiny, hot mess.

I am asking Mom to wake him up earlier, but seeing how helpful she normally is (sarcasm intended) I highly doubt she will be willing to do that.

All my children eat at home.Tell mom you are no longer offering breakfast on arrival.She will have to spend a few minutes feeding him at home.I offer a "breakfast snack"at 9:15 am he eats or not.Then we are out from 10-12 lunch ,story and nap.Put him down just like before he may or may not fall asleep but needs to be quiet.I would not let him stay up with school age kids.Good luck,

I serve breakfast at 9 so many of mine have a snack at home before arriving. I'd put him down for nap just like everyone else. My older kiddos did well with books on CD - and sometimes relaxed enough to fall asleep!

I like the breakfast at home idea, although I doubt she will do it. Mom was not receptive to my asking her to wake him up early, he comes groggy and obviously pulled right out of bed and changed. Argh.

I serve breakfast at 8, and I don't want to change my schedule to accommodate her/one child. I told her this and she said "Well just give him a snack." :confused: Like it's no big deal. Um, yes it is a big deal, I eliminated am snack because if everyone ate it, lunch wasn't eaten as much and then they were hungry before PM snack....it snowballed. If I give him a snack when he wants it, it's right in the middle of preschool time. If I give him a snack, everyone would want one. I can't claim it, again, not going there.

He will stay on his mat during story, but the second I stop reading and he's not asleep, he gets up. He's 3, and it's constant redirection back to his mat. He WILL NOT stay on it. He's relatively quiet, but I can't leave the room to even pee or he is up playing.

There is a definite developmental issue at play in regards to him understanding what is expected. You can tell him 10000000 times and he says OK, then goes right back to doing what he was doing. Redirection is the ONLY thing that works because I HAVE to step in and stop the behavior.

Dcd had to drop off today because dcm is sick, so he came an hour earlier. We will see if this helps. I'm sure if I ask dcm to tell dcd to drop off EARLIER she will like that idea.

I understand a parent's nonchalant attitude towards rearranging the schedule. For them to have an off schedule is no big deal. It is ONE kid. Totally different with preschool and a group.

Sorry, this is a tough situation. I seriously doubt the parents are going to be of any help. All you can do is remind him to be quiet a zillion times, but then that cuts into your time....and you do have a rule about kids having to nap, or..... I'm not sure how long I could/would deal with this!
