    I got a screecher!

I have a 16 month old dcb that does not talk at all. He says "eh eh eh" for everything. Now he screeches. When I say screech, I mean screams at the tops of his lungs when he doesnt' get his way, when someone takes something away, when he wants something etc. In other words, all the time. . It is driving me nuts!! How can I get him to stop. Obviously, when he does it, I tell him no no, talk softer etc.

I have a calm-down corner, and that is where screamers and criers go to pull themselves together. It's a corner where they can't see the other kids and can look at books and has a few sensory items to help them soothe themselves. At 16 months, some kids may be able to do this, some may not. I would try sitting with him in the calm down corner and introducing items to him and explaining that when we're upset, we can come here until we feel better. I had one like that, too, and at 2.5, he is still "high strung", but deals with things better.
