    Symptoms
Your child may have a high fever that starts suddenly and
generally lasts for a few days. As the fever breaks, a rash
appears on the childโ€™s belly, chest, back, and neck. It may
later spread to the rest of the body. Even with a rash, your
child may still feel okay. Illness may last up to 7 days.
If your child is infected, it may take 9 to 10 days for
    symptoms to start.

Usually a high fever that appears suddenly and generally lasts 3 to 7 days. As the fever breaks, a rash appears on the trunk and neck and may later spread to the rest of the body. The rash may last from several hours to several days. At this time, the child usually does not feel very sick. Infection also occurs without symptoms in many children. Seizures may occur in children with high fevers.
Persons with weakened immune systems may have more severe disease and
    symptoms may last longer.

    Need to stay home?
    Childcare:
Yes, until the fever is gone and other rash illnesses, especially measles, have been ruled out.

The above is from our fact sheet on roseola. In my experience, for roseola usually there is a high fever FIRST. Then the fever breaks and the rash appears. In my daycare, both the rash and the fever are reasons to exclude. The rash MUST be diagnosed by a physician.

      Thanks

Thanks this helps me a lot.

I heard the rash isn't contagious.

He woke up with both eyes swollen and high fever 103 and covered from head to toe in rash.

Do you think I should allow him to return Monday?

I have them keep him/her home tomorrow . By Monday the child should be fine. Rosaola is very short lived, in most cases.

24hrs after fever is gone without meds and they are comfortable enough to participate as normal. The rash itself isn't contagious and usually starts after they're no longer contagious.

I would want parents to take him in for diagnosis. Every time I've seen roseola, it's been fever first. Fever gone, next up is a rash. Parents often think that more than one thing is going on. I have not personally seen fever and rash simultaneously be diagnosed as roseola.

I hope they ruled out scarlet fever/strep first before going to Roseola. I agree that most cases are fever (for example) Sat/Sun and then a rash starts on like Tues/Wed progressively getting worse and spreading from chest/trunk up and out.
I had 3 of my 6 boys get Scarlet Fever within a couple mos. We went to the dr, ER and finally the dr again with his brother and figured out what it was. When the 3rd one got it I knew right away. The not eating also makes me wonder about strep.

INCUBATION: Estimated to be 9 to 10 days.

I don't know if you'd like a link to a page for parents:

NORMAL FOR THIS AGE GROUP AND usually harmless.

My kid had roseola. she started with 104+ fever, then within a few hours of that, a rash. The fever lasted 4 days.
